Long story short, was replacing my valve cover gasket and noticed some small pieces of metal in one of the oil channels on the cylinder head. I assumed it was debris from a prior cam follower failure being as my car was running fine. When I pulled the HPFP to see if the cam had been damaged at all, what I found blew my mind.
Some pics of the carnage, how could this not throw a code or cause any other issues??

Inside the HPFP port, obviously the cam is destroyed.

This is at the front passenger side of the cylinder head, on the exhaust cam. Looks like marking from debris:

And the cam follower that barely even resembles a cam follower!

What looks like sand is actually metal debris that was everywhere, this was from inside a port on the PCV valve itself.

And hate to see this happen to my baby...
