    Bummer on failing cat, but see no reason not to scrub emissions as I've often noted here; and 4.2 yields little in power with exchaust mods, so only issue is changing resonators/mufflers to change sound (beware of drone!).

    Yeah, not too worried about the emissions either since where I live we have none, but my two main concerns with all of this are CEL's and the infamous "Drone" factor. Still looking for the right solution and hoping my local indie exhaust guy will have some ideas, but wanted to get some ideas of what Audi people have tried and been happy with performance/sounds-wise with the 4.2 engine.

    Sweet... can't wait to see 'em! I finally decided on some wheels and am buying them this week. They are the 18x9.5 +20 Work Cr kai's off of Cartel's b5 rs4 converted imola avant. I'm planning on getting some 20's down the road...

    no, that's exactly what Matt/Gumby is running w/ his Rotas and he is just running a 3mm spacer in the front to clear the brakes. I'm gonna put a 5mm spacer all the way around for a final offset of 15mm and 275/40's on all fours.

    The wheels will be tucked in a little but since you're putting 275's they'll look flush with the fender flares.

    yeah, no kidding. I must've miscalculated something. I knew something was wrong when I saw my tires stretching on what I thought to be 8.5" wide wheels.... but didn't really think about it till last week. A friend of mine told me that tires looked "weird" that's when I realized something was up lol

    No, I used OEM exhaust clamps. NO welding =) so I can put stock mufflers back on if needed.

    That's a good idea. I haven't had a chance to get under the car yet, is the muffler connected with clamps or do you need to cut it at all? It sounds great btw. I'm assuming the air flows a little quicker but did you actually notice any performance gain at all?

    Well, all engines prefer no back pressure. What you are missing is velocity or the scavenging effect that proper tubing sizing will create. Yes, you can put too big a pipe on an engine and the engine will not take advantage of each pulse drafting after the other. Too small a pipe and the engine has to push the exhaust out because of back pressure.

    Sit Down, take a look at it, take it apart, and FIX it!

    hey guys, just a question.. what do you think a 2.8 would sound like with just the resonators removed? straight-piping the resonators.. i have 2 of the resonators removed in my v8 ls400 and it sounds somewhat like a stock g35

    @Depsized:

    Is that a cross over right behind the cats, or are the pipes just welded together for rigidity?

    Either way, I want to hear it!

    DRONE!

    Just had my exhaust done at AMS Autowerks. Custom DP's and straight pipe with 3" piping and Magnaflow mufflers. The drone is driving me insane! Right around 2200-2400 rpm's it sounds like a shit-can civic. So for a daily driver it may be a bit much. So I think I might put the cats back on as well as resonators. I can't stand the CEL light either. So it's either piggies or just keep the cats. Oh and after I'm coasting for a minute or so (not stepping on the gas at all) and then get on the gas even a bit ... POOF .... a huge puff of exhaust blinds the car behind me. I'm lucky I didn't get pulled over yet. Does this happen to anyone else?

    I've read through the posts and some people have put up suggestions and verified setups that get rid of drone.

    BUT... any suggestions? How the hell should I get rid of the the drone???

    I have one video up on youtube but nothing special. As for the X that is an X pipe I wanted to keep that in there to keep some equalization between the pipes. it is in 720p btw.

    Just wanted to note I have 4-5 more videos that will be uploaded eventually I will have them under the same username. thanks.
