Thanks guys for clearing that up. Yes just the stock resonators, the pipes are slightly bigger than stock because they're welded over the stock pipes slightly. I'll try to post a video when I'm driving. Can't wait to hear what yours sound like VJ.

Question for you exhaust buffs. I drive a B5 2.8.

I have had a custom stainless magnaflow setup on my car for a few months now. The system is high flow magnaflow cats, to a Y pipe to join the 2 inch pipe and outlet into a 2.25 pipe, which goes through a magnaflow bullet resonator into a magnaflow 14815 muffler.

The system soo sounds crazy good after it warms up, it can be a little raspy on cold starts. But it has its flaw. From 2-3.5k rpm it is soo loud. crazy loud. Around 4k it mellows out and just sounds mean, but reasonably quiet.

I would just weld resonators in, but i absolutly love the sound, it has that deep v6 growl i wanted so bad. Its PERFECT if your standing outside watching the car drive away, but from inside the car, its loves to drone in the lower RPM range/

So how can i cut down on the drone, without losing the sound i love?

does anyone have any experience with both the A6 and the allroad underside? do they both have the same room for mufflers? I want to run mufflers the same dimensions (except in 2.25" pipe size) Daft is running on his A6...

Here's what I went with:
Magnaflow 10426 18"x4"x4" round resonators
Magnaflow 12256 18"x5"x8" oval mufflers (offset in/center out)
Magnaflow 35121 4"x2.25"x7" double-wall round w/ angle cut tips

...but man, when i look under there and measure stuff with a tape, it looks like it would be awful tight trying to get all that in there. 14" resonators & 14" mufflers would be no problem, im just afraid they would be too loud. This thing has to pass the wife test or its my ass... and God knows its got enough chew marks as is. lol.

Yes they can use the same exhaust. FYI - I will be selling my full setup, virtually the same as Daft and Vijay (I had it first ) in the very near future. Probably January. Its all in great condition and still sounds great. Just going a different direction. Will be selling with my piggies as well. X pipe, 18"x4" mid mufflers, 5"x8"x18" rears. Made for pre-facelift hidden tips, but can easily have tips welded. All dual 2.5", no cats.

Old cat rattle that I had that got removed. Also before I took a dremel to the tips and baked them.

So you still have stock DP's & cats but then just pipes and an X after that? Still have pre-cats? Sounds very quiet for no mufflers. And I can tell you that removing the cats will give you much bigger gains than removing the mufflers did...

Ya I live in California so the it won't pass smog with removing the cat, and i'm gutting my downpipes very soon. It's also alot louder than the video shows i need a real camera lol

Do they use actual sniffers for inspection in CA? Even if they do, isn't that only once a year? The other 364 days it will be worth it, trust me.

would you be willing to get a pic of the rear muffler still on the car from the underside? id like a good view of how the whole thing fits in there, as well as how the pipe looks coming out of the leading edge near the suspension bits, and finally a pic of the fitment of the rear of the muffler by the tip so i can see how close the muffler body is to the rear bumper cover where it folds under the bumper and would be close to the muffler? if you, or anyone with 18" long bodied mufflers could do this it would be much appreciated.

im afraid ill grab all the parts, take it to the shop and have the guy say "uh, i cant do that". I want to be able to say "yes you can & heres how."

I have most of what you are asking for already somewhere. Just have to find them. But keep in mind this is on an A6, so the Allroad would add exposed tips.. I will look for the pics and post when I find them..

Correct. I have seen under both A6's and Allroads while on lifts and without the bumper valance for turn downs there is some more clearance.

And FYI- My rear mufflers are offset/offset configuration, 2.5" in/out. I took these from ground level, slightly down hill on my driveway so you could see underneath and muffler placement. They do not hang below the bumper in any way, but they kinda look like they do from the pics. It's just the angle of the photos.

I wanted an exhaust that was more quiet than loud, which was just what the magnaflows gave me.

Any video yet Nick? Ive been browsing around for exhaust options for quite some time now and all I have bought so far was the tips. Still trying to figure out what muffles and resonators I want to go with. I know you and Brett have just about the same set up but havent heard either one of yours yet.

speaking of videos, i need to see the one from waterfest of you embarrassing the m3. someone has to have that!
