Cabin Air Filter - Air Flow Direction?

Ok here is a stupid question and yes I know this is only 1 wrench if that.
However I was outside replacing my cabin air filter today and when I opened it up it was really dirty and had a crap load of debrees in there.

The thing that I have is which way is the direction of the air flow or should the arrow point.

Should it point down like in the picture below which is what I got from the DIY B6 A4 post.

Or should the arrow be facing up for the air flow direction? Below is the picture taken from my car when I pulled it out to replace it.

I would say it should go down just as common sense and by looking at things and then again by the way the DIY is posted and written.

However when I went to change my out today the arrow was facing up opposite of what the DIY has and shows.

So either I am just dumb or the person/stealership who owned the car before me put it in the wrong way.

Just curious so I dont do the same stupid thing they did. For now I am going to put it in the same direction as the DIY and have the Air Flow Direction arrow point downward.

    Thanks again

i believe the blower is in the bottom half so the air flow should be going up. so arrows up. i could be wrong though

Re: Cabin Air Filter - Air Flow Direction?

I think its meant to point down

Just feel for the air flow and point the filter in the correct direction :)

EDIT, you dont even have to check for air flow, just see which side is dusty :)

actually now that I think about it, keep it the way it was or all the dust that stuck in will blow out into your face when you turn the AC on :p

Re: Cabin Air Filter - Air Flow Direction?

It is supposed to point down. The cabin blower motor sucks air in from the engine bay area and blows it into the cabin. Therefore the cabin filter arrow should be down signaling that the air is being sucked through the filter into the cabin.

Re: Cabin Air Filter - Air Flow Direction?

Thanks for the information all, very much appreciated. It looks like it is suppose to be pointing down as some of you have suggested. Which makes total sense. I was just curious though since it was different and well to me it did not make sense at all.

Thanks again everyone very much appreciated.
