If you can get your hands on a connector that is already peiced together with wiring slack from it's original harness, then the wires should be color matched. You can't really go wrong (green to green; green w/yellow stripe to green w/yellow stripe; green w/white stripe to green w/white stripe; etc). The dealership sells connectors, but you really don't want to go that route. You have to peice it together yourself (they don't sell it put together already), it is expensive, and can be a headache. And as mentioned before, soldering is not absolutely necessary. But it is just the proper way of doing it as you will decrease chances of having a voltage drop as the MAF readings are rather important for the ECU to deliver proper fueling.
Here is a simple picture to picture step similar to what you would be doing. Make sure every wire is "color matched" to it's designated counterpart and just splice each wire one by one:
*Just wanted to add that in the pictures, I should have cut more end of the wire. When I was to bend it over then place the shrink tube on it, it should be laying on the wire itself and not the sheath of the wire because that would cause more resistance.
Edit: Out of curiosity, how did you fuber up your connector so bad? Looks like it was chewed on by a rat or something.
