Is it possible to make 800-900 comfortably with this motor?
They want you afraid of your neighbors, your community, your family, your ability to support yourself, terrorists, climate change, China, Russia, Covid. As long as you are afraid, and won't unite red or blue, they win.

A well built VR6 can support 1000 crank HP, while a stock one should be able to support 500-550 crank HP. Others have produced even more on the stock block. Rods, pistons, ported head with big valves are the foundation for power on the VR6. Expect to spend north of $6K for a built engine.

So what oil pan has to be used with the 24v VR6? Or do you modify the stock one somehow?

That's the right oil pan, but Dan @ 034 mentioned that it needs to be modified to clear the crossmember with the 12V or 24V. I'm trying to find out what the mod is and will they do it if I buy it from them. I know it involves cutting and rewelding a section out of it and that's all.

We supply the correct oil pan needed and infact we have a pan out there that does NOT require any modification of the subframe.

    Re: *** OFFICIAL VR6 -12V & 24V FAQ and Info sharing ***

Wow, This single post made me finally subscribe to audizine. I love the fact of a timing chain over a belt and an engine bay I can work in.

Will an adjustable fuel pressure regulator for the 2.67 motor fit on a vr6 rail? if the housing is even built onto the rail? im new to vr6 engines but not new to auto mechanics and doing some really wild shit on motors. I ask the FPR question because I was about to drop a few grand in parts (some allready $$) for my build up that I JUST rented a 20x20 garage for. Now I've gotta cancel a few orders and other things with the machine shop....This forum saved me some major time/$$ allready. With that cramped bay I never even considered an engine like that.

Im definatly going to be doing a major buildup of this engine and just spent the last 3 hours researching shit. The ecu problem still confuses me but hopefully 034 will save the day on that one. My power/$$ aspirations have completely changed. Btw im located in yuma arizona, feel free to get in contact.

I just purchased the 034 stand alone stage IIc ECU, harness, and relay board. 034 will need to know what size injectors you're using, the type of throttlebody you'll install, the location where you plan on installing the ECU, and a few other questions. Pretty much it's a plug and play affair. You just will need to connect power, ground, and a 12V switched source.

Here are some pics of the 034 TIme Attack car that features the build up. Christian Miller at 034 sent me this link. I found this very helpful in figuring out what mods need to be done. Every installation will be different, but this can provide some guidelines.

a lot of good information here Issam. When you said earlier that the 12v v6 guys had it easy, is it that easy to retain the obd2 stuff required to pass emissions and keep tachs/trip computers and such? Care to expand upon that topic a bit more? I will probably call you with a few more questions, but I figured it is good information for the community...

BTW, this is my first post on audizine. I signed up purely for this thread. For those who dont know me, My name is Hank and I am addicted to fast things.

Hey Hank, because the 12V V6 harness is very similar to the 12V VR6 harness in terms of what connectors are on it and such.

    6K? I just checked Schimmel's built 3.0 VR6 motor price and it was $4000. 6K is a HUGEEEEEEE stretch. I call b/s!!!!! break that 6 K down if you don't mind.

The fact that the 12v VR6 still has timing chains vs. a belt I would not recommend for any one to swap from something with a belt to chains. The timing chain problem has been notorious in the 12v VR6 world. Unlike a belt which you can easily take a look and see how the belt looks... timing chain (and guides) is nearly a half day of just to see if they are ok or not. No thanks. That's main reason I traded my MK3 97 Jetta VR6 for a B5 2001 S4.

Yes I love the sound of the VR6 and I miss it bad but really how often are you going to need the extra room to swap your turbos out? To do all the work for a more space seems like a waste even if it slightly cheaper for the amount of power... We also need to keep in mind most emission standard make it illegal to swap in a older engine in a newer car. I know it is here in Washington state. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure most people are just going to be doing this for a track only car.

I love seeing people trying new things but this might be going in the wrong direction.... that's just my $0.02

So Issam, is the b5 cluster integration with the 034 EFI system something of the near future? Wouldn't you need to run a MK3 cluster to get it to work? or has anyone figured out the wiring to integrate the existing cluster?

Ive seen vr timing chaine go for over 200k no problem. I had a jetta with 178k on it with original timing chain.. If you're swapping in a motor, might as well do the chains and guides anyway, save yourself the headache.

    A MKIII cluster in a B5? No
you would only need to convert to DBC and keep the stock S4 in there to keep the cluster happy
all engine control is done with Stage IIc.This is how most of the 034 builds are done...the only reason people are not throwing themselves at this is due to emissions - if your state does OBD scans vs sniffer then you cant have standalone.

Its a VR - treat it like shit and it will treat you like shit but NO WORSE than a 2.7TT.

    ^ lol

I am currently doing this swap in my Daily Driven S4, and it will stay a Daily driven S4 when its finished.

Other than that, please don't turn this thread into a 2.7tt vs Vr6.

This is the Vr6 Swap FAQ Thread, not "state your opinion why this swap is bad thread"

    ;) Thanks.

Whoa. You're calling B/S based on what? Please send me the link showing where $4K buys a built VR6.

How far along with this swap are you since you're currently doing it?

I agree. Parts alone are going to cost you 3-4k. Plus the labor to balance everything, port the heads...it ads up quick with a VR6, just like any other motor.

Yeah, I was going to show him just how fast Ti retainers, valve springs, ported head, head studs, cams, larger valves, machining and other parts in the head alone adds up fast. I haven't even started on the block yet. You can have at least $2-3K in the head alone. What are you getting for $4K, just the shortblock or the longblock?
