That motor is out of his race car, that is the only reason he used it.. Because it was free and sitting there. There have been YEARS of tuning into that motor. 12v vr6 has been around for 15+ years... The 24v just a few years. I wouldnt be surprised if eventually someone squeezes 1000+ whp out of a 24v vr6..

    Re: *** OFFICIAL VR6 -12V & 24V FAQ and Info sharing ***

Yeah, this would be nice to know. I started a B5 vr6t project late last year and had to part with it this summer when it came time to get a house. Things worked out better than I hoped and I got a house with a 4 car garage instead of a 2. So, VR6T is back on the plate and I am looking for a good b5 now but I would love to go back to a B6 if possible.

    More info please.

Yes they are but you will have to:
    * Modify your subframe
    * not have the ability to run a rubber engine mount

Running a 12v vr6? If youre planning a 24v swap, no low impedance injectors will fit in the head.

    Re: *** OFFICIAL VR6 -12V & 24V FAQ and Info sharing ***

Another B6 3.0 owner checking in on this swap.

If I've read right, the 12v VR6 fits in the engine bay easier than the 24 valve, but has a less efficient head and can't use A/C. The plus side is that it can use the normal motor mounts? I'd rather sacrafice the A/C and save space and use normal mounts. The 12v can also make 400-500awhp pretty easily I assume, right?

Maybe I read wrong and you'll have the same clearance issues w/ either the 12v or the 24v... but fitment makes the 12v seem like the better answer imo. Plus it's cheaper.

Issam, I sent you a PM earlier, just finished reading this thread. I'm concerned about the issues brought up by the person who's completed the swap, but if using a 12v can avoid some of these, and if you're now supplying a passenger motor mount pre-fabricated, it sounds like the rest can be adjusted w/o major welding fab work?

With the 12v your either going to have to make custom motor mount brackets or use 034efi's race brackets that means metal to metal vibrate your teeth out... With the 24v you still need a custom pass side but there is a OEM to drivers side...

ah, must have had it mixed up. I thought the 24v was too tall based on the guy who's done it and he had to modify motor mounts anyways. I thought the 12v was shorter and had the holes for the motor mounts, you just had to choose to use it instead of the A/C bracket. Guess I'll have to wait to hear back from Issam and make sure I've got it straight.

Swap is going well, no build thread for me, not my style, however I would rate this a 8 out of 10 for skill level.

Now I did all the bolt on stuff (removing the motor etc and setting up my vr6, starter, adapter plate, cllutch and flywheel & oil pan), but as far any fabricating (exhaust, ac lines etc) I have some buddies of mine that are helping out. And Issam is making me my Passenger side bracket

But the only real challenge was to decide which way I wanted to go as far as harness.

Issam is doing some magic this week and well figure out whether or not well run the motor off the stock harness ( modified of course ) or go stand alone, so that's all up to issam.

I am going NA 24v VR6, and plan to go boost in about a year, so I might just go stand alone, I guess well see.

About over all cost, parts (clutch, oil pan, starter, adapter plate, flywheel, custom bracket) comes to about 2,500 give or take. Its really not that bad, but then again, like justin, I have friends who can weld/fab for me so that is a HUGE HELP financially.

As far as hoses/lines, justin said he paid over 1k in hoses and clamps n such, well See, I'll def update what the cost is for me when I get to that.

I'll def take some pics as soon as Im done and def post them up.

If your really interested in doing this swap or have questions you couldnt find answers for here, just PM/Email Issam, so far its been heaven working with him, really cool guy.

Looks different than the billet 6765 i got from precision, and the one USP runs. Mine has the drilled comp housing.. Was it cheaper to not get that option?

Now I did all the bolt on stuff (removing the motor etc and setting up my vr6, starter, adapter plate, cllutch and flywheel & oil pan), but as far any fabricating (exhaust, ac lines etc) I have some buddies of mine that are helping out. And Issam is making me my Passenger side bracket

Like i said before, once the motor/trans is bolted in the car, you are about 20-25% done with the swap.. You'll see what im talking about..

Sure, since you are running it NA and probably not touching the fuel system, it will be a bit easier.. You will have all the fitment issues onces the motor is sitting in the bay.

Agreed. But if I have to hack away at the rad support, or cop/cut weld, personally I could care less. Whatever I have to do to complete the swap I will do. I dont mind spacing out the hood brackets to make the motor fit, in my eyes, I say screw it. Its gonna get done one way or another! lol

But hey, I'm figuring this out as I go, so I'm sure I'll run into problems, its o.k
    I have 1800- ISSAMHELP lol thank goodness..lol

And justin if you have any advice or pics, or any other issues that you did not mention before that came up and you wanna let us know that would be greatly appreciated.

if you had to break out the remaining 75-80%, what would you say?

    Wiring - ? %
    coolant hoses/radiator/fans - ? %
    turbo kit installation/fab - ? %
    fueling - ? %

any other major jobs, or just misc?

I feel like the hardest part is getting the motor/tranny set up in the car, then the rest is just tedious fitment and misc. stuff... similar to just turbocharging any other car. Is that an accurate assessment, or is there alot more of the VR6 'swap' stuff that takes time after the initial mounting.

Getting motor to fit with hood closing 20%
Coolant hoses, fans, AC lines - 20%
Fuel system (if you do a complete system like me) - 10%
    Wiring - 15-20%
Other misc stuff will fill in the rest.. Once the motor is in the car the easy part is done, it took us 1-2 days to get the motor in the car, and we would just work a few hours at a clip..This swap, besides bolting to the trans with the adapter plate, and motor mounts, just doesnt seem meant to be haha.
