A) WAAAAAAAAAAY to many vague statements floating around in this thread.
B) Check your oil at the end of the day, on a flat and level surface, 15-20 minutes after shutting the motor off.
C) Check it every fill up to give yourself a good idea of fluctuations which may occur.
D) Don't listen to ANYONE about oil consumption. If you measure oil levels frequently and consistently, you will know what is going on!
Every motor has different consumption levels, if any at all. Have you looked at your valve cover gaskets lately? Can you all tell me what grade was last put in (let alone, how many of you changed the oil personally), let alone what oil manufacturer, let alone what torque your oil filter cover needs for proper fitment?
The point I am making is this: If you are proactive and aware of your individual motor oil demands, then there is no need to get your panties in a bunch. Ipso Facto.......if in doubt, have an engine oil analysis performed and let us know the outcome.
FWIW, yes, oil level sensors suck in our cars, but if you follow the above points, you shouldn't be concerned.
