Did B6 S4's ever come with single xenon headlights? Or were they all bi-xenon?

The single xenons have a much smaller opening for the low beam appearance wise if that helps you

single xenons = uses a halogen light bulb next to it to function as the high beam
bixenon = the xenon projector has a shutter, when the high beams are enabled, the shutter moves up out of the way. More light is dispersed, this acts as the high beam.

hopefully that didn't confuse even more :)

It would be cheaper and less of a hassle to just buy a set of used bi-xenons or ecodes.

Sounds like if you dont use high beams, then visually its the same (at night).
I need to search these pictures up.

Plus with the bi xenon setup you get the bonus of having your housings look like fishbowls due to condensation

Ok...let me continue with the noob questions.

    What's the difference between bi-xenon and e-codes?

E-code no orange reflector with city lights.

Bi-xenon has orange reflector and no city lights.

So then an e-code would be bi-xenon as well?

Yes they are, although there may be single xenon e-codes as well. I don't know though.

the single xenon lamps look funny to me. the big projector lens looks way better IMO. i know, kind of a lame nitpick.

    No.

Bi-xenon DOES NOT mean you have two xenon bulbs in the headlight assembly.

It just refers to the fact the main projector doubles as the high beam projector when you activate the highbeams.

When your headlight is in 'normal' mode a solenoid controlled flap is in the up position blocking off a bunch of the light, when you turn of your highbeams this flap drops down and all of the xenon light is sent out of the projector.

The halogen highbeam is still there for the 'flash to pass' feature as a xenon bulb would not get to operating brightness fast enough if your headlights were turned off.

And please search as every question in this topic as been discussed to death already. I know I typed the above reply a few times already.

With all due respect Winston, and I value the info you provide,I don't understand responses like this. If reposts bother people so much, why respond to them? Just ignore them and they will go away on thier own. I'm not looking to start an argument and I'm sure I'll get flamed for this comment, but I just don't get it.

I felt like being nice today so I answered the question instead of choosing to ignore it.

I was a n00b, we all have been. I choose to remember this fact and help out with the answers, but as it was stuck into my face, I do so to the next wave of n00bs.

Since a clear answer wasn't provided I chose to provide an answer. I rather have a few more educated Audi owners than a bunch of clueless ones.
