    Clunk noise when pulling away...

I have this annoying clunk noise which only happens when I pull away after starting car. I can only locate the noise around the front right suspension area.

I think it could be the spring, bush or even a mount which has been compressed when car sits overnite then pops in or out when I pull away. The noise will not happen again whilst I am driving, stopping at lights, parking or reversing. Will happen when I leave car overnite to start her up again in the morning. Seems more noticable when pull out and turn right.

Any ideas what it could be guys? I've changed the OE suspension to S-line and still have the same clunk noise. Driving me crazy! All my joints look fine and no noise when testing steering with full lock both ways.

    Thanks

I have the same noise too but on the front driver side. Exactly same symptoms and I changed all my control arms/tie rods back in December.

Did changing all those parts resolve the noise? I doubt its serious as it never repeats itself but its quite annoying and I want it fixed!

Any ideas what it is??? Worn bush, suspension mount or what? God knows....

I dunno if I would call it a clunk but if i'm not mistaken there is an ABS check that the car does automatically after start up while pulling away that makes a little noise.

The first time you pull away from a stop after the cars been shut down for a bit, you'll here (and usually feel) an ultra-quick clunk. It usually happens in mine about 10 ft after I start rolling.
It is simply the ABS pressurizing and doing a very quick self test.
At first, I thought it was something in the driveshaft or driveline shuffling.

If this clunk you all are talking about is only happening the first time you start to drive, this is what's going on, and it's perfectly normal. If this clunk is happening everytime you start from a stop (stop signs, red lights, whatever) then it's a different story.
Upgraded the motor a little, brakes a little more, and suspension a lot.

I always thought that was my CV joints or my control arms. It always happens to me as well, only when the car has been off for over a couple hours, and it always happens within 5 seconds of the car being in motion. It also happens in my sister's b6, so I never wanted to believe it was something I needed to replace. Good to know.

The ABS check is more of a scraping sound than a clunking sound.

Re: Clunk noise when pulling away...

I've read a couple threads where people suggested this sound is the u joints on the driveshaft adjusting to the added torque. I've had people comment about a clunking noise when I pull away.

Just like I said, I thought it was something in the driveline myself (CV joints, drive shaft, tranny, differential) but it is in fact the ABS. All is normal.
