Re: Brake light switch replacement DIY?

When I first got my car my switch was stuck, it was under warranty so the dealership dealt with it. From what I understand the whole dash has to come off. Doesn't sound fun :(

    It is a cake install

    The switch costs around $20

You take the bottom part of the dash off it was like 4 screws and then the new switch even comes with directions on how to install it.

^^^^^Seriously, this install is cake....take dash off (3-4 screws), then you might have 1 screw from the existing switch, push in on the switch and turn to pull out, put the new one in, then finally reinstall the bottom of the desh with the 3-4 screws.

    This takes 15min MAX!!!

$11 from Audi dealer, and yeah the install was cake as turboquattropwr said. Took me about 5 minutes.

You just remove the lower dash piece to gain access to the switch, the switch wasnt held in by anything, just a twist & lock. This fixed the ESP light being on all the time after depressing the brake pedal.

Re: Brake light switch replacement DIY?

i agree, this is the easiest repair you've ever done...

don't sweat it. like they've said above, just a couple of screws, drop the knee bolster under the steering wheel, reach underneath and presto! you're there.

The new part from the dealer cost me about $15, and yes, it does come with directions also. I remember it saying something about graphite lubricant. I didn't have any so i skipped it... hell if it sticks again, replace the whole damn thing again. You'll be even faster the 2nd time around! :)

Just don't let the faulty brake light drain your battery like mine did :( that was $200 down the drain

Re: Brake light switch replacement DIY?

Here's the one I used when I replaced mine on my 1.8T, not sure if it's exactly the same on a 3.0.
