    Stampy -
Saw the title, thought this thread was going to be satire.... Like the guy that wanted subforum for C6 A6 mods, have one for 4.2s -- but why stop there? have break-out sections: mirrors, floor mats ("they're not just black anymore"), key fobs and chains, and "misc."

Ha, your just jealous of the fancy 4.2 floor mats. I understand Woffy. I would be in the same boat if I had that lame duck 2.7t.

Haha, this dude wanted answers and we destroyed the thread already.

the point is that they are not $50 I got a good deal on them. They usually go for $120 or around there. And I never said I wanted a 4.2 subsection either ;) dont hate

Re: C6 Rubber Monster Mats for winter

I bought these same mats (part number #4F1-061-450-041) for my 2006 about a month ago. I paid $89 + shipping from genuinevwaudiparts.com. They look very nice and work reasonably well, but I wish they were a little bigger so that they go fully behind the pedals, cover the footrest, and climb up the sides of the footwells a little bit. It seems like too much carpet is still exposed, and it doesn't help that my carpeting is beige and shows dirt like crazy.

Here in Wisconsin, we get a lot of snow, salt, and grit on our roads and walkways, and naturally this gets carried into the car, no matter how much I try to avoid it. Salty snowmelt from my shoes will drip behind the portion of the mat behind the pedals and also drip down the footrest to underneath the mats. Also, if enough water accumulates in the grooves of the mats, it can spill over if the car is tilted enough. So despite my best efforts to keep my and my passengers' feet contained to the mats, the surrounding carpet is still stained with dirty water and salt. I'm a little worried that the carpet will get moldy if the runoff sits under the mats with no room to evaporate.

All that said, being a tailor-made fit, they're probably the best winter mats you can buy for the car, but there is certainly room for improvement.

(For the C6s: VINs up to ...6N161223 get part #4F1-061-450-041 and VINS over ...6N161223 get part #4F1-061-450-A-041. The floorpan was revised in the middle of the 2006 model year, so there are different mats for pre- and post-revision floors.)

Wow thats a lot of water. I guess you could always cover the reg mats in a garbage bag or take them out completely and just have the rubber mats. My reg. floormats are getting dirty quick too, I also have beige and went over the ship "Tyco Responder" to visit, and theres dirt and mud everywhere around there. So Im hoping these mats will do me well.

Serfsud- You should get a wet vac or have the carpets covered in the dealer plastic carpet stuff that they put on new cars. just until you get a better set of mats or the weather relaxes a bit.
