Have you changed your Transmission Fluid?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just brought the Transmission Filter from ESC Tuning and in the process of buying the fluid from the local Audi Dealership. DAm fluid costing 70 euro = $94.00. how much did you spend and what Fluid did you use? I readed that the Audi fluid is recommended. I also seen it somewhere on this forum.

The dude from the dealership said it was no need to change the fluid. My car has 202, 000 Kilometers (126,000 miles). I aint feeling right for having new sparks plugs, changing oil and all the other shit and not changing the Transmission filter or fluid. It cant be good for the Transmission

HAs anyone changed thier fluid yet? What do you suggest? I trust you dudes, Since signing up to this forum, i have got some really useful information.

I take it you're Tiptronic then?

I've done numerous drain and refills on customer cars, it's pretty simple, but time consuming.

I don't know where or who has a DIY for you to read, but I'll type one out if you really need it.

Re: Have you changed your Transmission Fluid?

it was a bit annoying. make sure u can open the fill plug before u drain fluid.

car has to be on. and in order to fill, u need to put the car in gear and let it run forward and in reverse to completely fill the fluid. i got a friend with a lift because i was too nervous to do the process on jack stands.

btw, my bolts were stripped on the pan, so it took a bit of elbow grease to get it off. i used the same pan, but got a new gasket. also, make sure to clean off the magnets in the pan. and use some de-greaser to clean it up well.

edit: just realized that u have a 2.8, so i don't really know if everything is the same. you might want to double check my info first, but i can't really see it as being all the different.

Re: Have you changed your Transmission Fluid?

i would bring it to a dealer, the audi manual says you need to monitor the fluid temp with a program like vag-com while filling it (and doing what was suggested in the above posts) at the same time to get the proper levels. for me thats too many variables i dont want to deal with and would rather just pay some money and have it done right. you dont need to change trans fluid very often anyways. and yes the fluid is expensive and you cannot buy regular cheap A/T fluid.

maybe im wrong but how would vag-com monitor the temp? There arent any sensors on the differential? At least on mine I dont and I have a 99 2.8

I've not yet but this summer I will be doing it. From the DIY I read it seems semi easy.

Re: Have you changed your Transmission Fluid?

had mine done just a couple weeks ago. long story short, I drained the tranny on accident. it needs to be done right and it takes a special tool. on my 2001 2.8 the drain plug is the same as the fill plug and its on the bottom of the pan so you need a pump and reservoir to get the stuff into in there. I had my car towed to a local audi specialist and they charged me $17/liter (the dealer wanted $30/liter) the car actually shifts smoother now, even though they say that the Audi ATF lasts the lifetime of the car, its a good thing to do every now and then.

I changed the fluid in mine and could tell a differnence. Its pretty easy too, but you need to buy the tool off of ecs to do it. I only use Royal Purple. I think it was 75w-90.

Re: Have you changed your Transmission Fluid?

I did my researh and seen this DIY http://www.blauparts.com/audi/audi_f...on_fluid.shtml. Well to be honest with you all, I wont be doing it. I am taking it to have a dude who specialize in Transmission. He doing it for me for 40 euro= around $60.00. I was going to have Audi Stealership do it but they wanted 350 euro= like $500-$600.00. He specailize in Audi and VW so i faith in him.

Looking at the DIY... it looks simple but i know nothing is as easy as it looks.

That's for a manual trans. The OP doesn't have a M/T. He has a Tip/Auto, completely different process and fluid.

The Spec. Number for the Audi Transmission Fluid seems to be equivalent to the Mobile Dex III Audi Automatic Transmission Fluid. Which one did you use ?

Re: Have you changed your Transmission Fluid?

I changed my fluid and filter last year - it was easy. But, yes, the VAG is needed to be specific about the temp.
