    Bad Coil??

So annoyed... I have a 2005 3.0 Tip w/ 55k on it. Out of nowhere yesterday the car starts to shutter and felt like I was running on 3 cylinders. The harder I pushed on the gas the more it vibrated. Engine light on but not blinking and car smelled like sulfur when at a stop. Immediately I start thinking a bad coil or sensor. Could not get into the indy shop until this morning so I started researching the forum here for symtoms last night. Just wanted to say thanks for the threads and posts because I figured I was 99% correct after reading others with the same issue. Sure enough...Coil on #5 was fried. Just random I guess. Hopefully It won't happen to #6 or others or I may as well replace all of them. Thanks again everyone and keep up the Forum!!

I guess I should have asked everyone if you think I should replace the other 5 coils soon or replace at a later date. Thanks!

    Re: Bad Coil??

My Audi/VW mechanic told me that it was good practice (and Audi recommended) to replace all of them, as well as the spark plugs, when a coil goes. Being a sheister, I asked why. He informed me that it was due to them being part of a resistance-based system, you wanted them all to have the same level of wear. Seemed to make sense so I went for it. As long as you're under the hood... might as well if you plan to keep the car awhile.
