First trip to the audi shop

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Greetings,
So I’ve had my b7 for two weeks now, and have racked up enough quirks to warrant an appointment with the service center.

Of highest concern is the oil. Although I was told at the VW dealership it was changed, I have to believe it was not, or else I have big problems with rings. It's way too dirty for two to three weeks driving.
So I decided to go get ALL the fluids changed, just to get me back to ground zero.
I plan on having them look at the tranny, as the tiptronic shifts from 1st to 2nd way to early, and I may have a little noise(growl) coming from the passenger front (possible wheel or output shaft bearing).

Per reading posts here, I hope to drill them on the cam lobe issue, just to see what they have to say, as well as the DV. Also other recall stuff like the PCV valve and Fuel Pr sensor too.

I read that I need software upgrade to 1.5 to get ride of the annoying “accept” option on the NAV, is this something I can ask for, and how do I tell what version I already have (maybe 1.5 is a downgrade from what is there?)

I realize I will pay the full tilt on this trip, but I'd like them to do a complete once over, (backed by a couple proper questions from this board), sprinkle a little holy water on the windshield while pulling bills from my wallet, and send me on my happy way...

Is there anything else you think I should have them look into while it is there? The stealership is about 30 miles and a toll bridge away, so I’d like to avoid repeat visits if possible.

Thanks for tips, I’m making a list! (Ka-Ching!)

    peace

No problem with the tranny, that's how it is.

Re: First trip to the audi shop

You can ask them to check out the cam lobe issue, but if the codes arent in the ECU they cant do any warranty work.
The tranny issue, you can have them note it, but they wont do anything about it if it shifts/works within reasonable parameters.

Changing ALL fluids is a good idea, transmission fluid is often a neglected maintenance aspect.

Make sure you tell them that you think its drinking oil abnormally quick. <-- this is important for them to note on the service record at every interval / trip. There is a known issue with the 2.0t and a "bad batch of seals" which causes unusual oil consumption. The resolution for this is a new engine according to the service tech that was telling me this is passing as we were flying down the highway.

if its used, look the seats over especially the drivers seat, for cracking in the vinyl along the part of the seat back that sticks out the furthest. That part flexes every time you slide in and out of the car and is prone to cracking, should be covered under warranty... as well as yellowing of your centercaps on the wheels, also covered under warranty.

And, yes, the latest update will get rid of that stupid i accept screen... i doubt they will update that for you, well without a hassle... you would be better off to just download the update and burn it to a cd and put it in the rnse and update it yourself... takes like 10 minutes to do the whole thing.... and i'm sure in the end (unless you have a much more personable dealership staff than i do) you will spend a lot less hassle and much more piece of mind doing a lot of the stuff the dealer is supposed to do yourself...

Many thanks, I'll take a peak at those tomorrow

Not being one to download lots-o-stuff from the web, any idea where I would find a trustworthy place to get the latest software update with instructions?

Re: First trip to the audi shop

Interesting.... A call to the stealership has the service department telling me that the only fluids Audi recommends changing is the oil and brakes. I asked about tranny, and differential, and was told "nope", not recommended.... (as in sealed for life?)

wtf? Anyone had this told to them?

    thanks

I just bought my '07 A4, and that was one of the questions I asked one of the master techs at the stealership I bought it from, he said the tranny and diffs do not require servicing. WTF?; coming from Jeeps, I think I'll end up changing those on my own at some point after I do some more research on that subject.

As a side note, I'm bringing mine in next wedn to check on what I think its a bad front-passenger wheel bearing, which the OP mentioned as well; is this a common thing with our A4s? .
