    PCV system delete

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi guys.
I'd like to remove the whole system on my RS4.

    Here's a DIY for the 1,8t engine:
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=235106

and here's another DIY with the install of a Vacuum Pump:
    http://moparforums.com/forums/f48/pc...er-filter-234/

Would it be possible to do the same thing on the 2,7tt?

    Thanks

    Andrea

    Re: PCV system delete

the mopar guys idea looks neat, but 5-7hp sounds a bit optimistic.

as far as the 1.8 modification, unless you love the smell of gasoline fumes and crankcase gases i would leave it alone.

bypassing or eliminating the charcoal canister does nothing for performance, all the canister does is trap evaporating fuel in the canister (suspended in charcoal) and introduce it back into the engine while its running, without it, those gasoline fumes will vent off to the atmosphere and leave a lingering gas smell around your car.
The other thing he did was vent crankcase gases to the atmosphere, but it usually makes a bad smell that you will notice during stop and go driving.

A better question to ask if what do you want to achieve and go from there.

Well, i don't want to waste time checking all the one-way valves/vacuum hoses of the PCV system and probably spend hundreds $ replacing them.

    Re: PCV system delete

I just deleted my pcv system, sai, and some of my evap lines on my 1.8t. It's been a few months and I haven't noticed any gas or other new smells.

I also rerouted some vacuum lines in the process and I like the peace of mind knowing my vacuum system is more simple and less parts to malfunction. Also it helped me know exactly how my vacuum system works and what lines go where, which i know will be useful.

the only problem part we have is the spider hose and its $300 for a new one. or you can just fix it with hose suitable for oil and replace the 1 or two check valves that may need replaced for around $40 each.

I don't really get this "makes everything so much cleaner under the hood" thing. so that other guy can change his valve cover gasket in 10 min, thats not a gasket you replace all the time anyway. for me, if it doesn't make the car faster i'm not interested in doing it.

Do you know this for a fact? I'm just curious...

I need to swap motors soon and this would be great to do while I'm getting down and dirty... do we know who's motor this is? ->

Oh yea and PS: it is pretty simple to do but in the end if you PM Scott over at Advance Automotion (he is a sponsor) then he can get you the updated winter proof breather for $130 shipped if I recall. Not bad considering it should be fine for some time.

if you scavenge through some of the older more serious builds, you can see that the all of this stuff was eliminated. i remember seeing it so maybe there are some better pictures in there.. ill try searching tomorrow.

IIRC the updated spider hose only fits updated 01.5-02 pcv systems and us pro 01.5 people are screwed with the shitty old design with no heatshielding, os it would be easier/cheaper for us to do something like the Polish GT car pictured.

    Re: PCV system delete

I actually learned a lot about how the PVC system worked by looking at GURUMAN's build thread also....

like you could really actually put little breather filters everywhere the spider hose plugs into and vent the positive pressure that way, but you would have oil vapor residue all over everything haaha

from what I can tell (correct me if im wrong) All it does is collect the oil vapor, using the incoming air thru the y-pipe as a vacuum source, actually pulling the vapor from the block and heads (and intake mani in some cases)

It doesn't work very well....how many times have you seen your valve covers leaking? ( or replaced them?)

I looked into using exhaust as a vacuum source, and using big hosing to oil catch cans for awhile, and will eventually do something cool.

    Re: PCV system delete

I think the best solution would be a non-vented catch can that drips down to the oil pan instead of collecting. You could weld-in a connection to the turbo oil return line. I know 034 has a similar solution but not for our cars (I think it's for the old Quattros). When I was there, I can't even remember when, sometime last year, I asked them about the idea and they didn't see any issue with it.

Anyone consider something like this? Maybe even a modded oil pan with a return instead of on the turbo return could work...

I think 2bennett is the only company offering a decent OCC Setup at the moment. Check it out on their website.

EVAP and PCV are different. EVAP is the module the breather for your gas tank gets plugged into. Its on the top left of the motor, right by cyl num 3 if your standing over the motor. the line run with the fuel feed and return. If you want to eliminate that, just pull the line and dump it under the car
