so i decided to redo my moldings and they came out pretty sick. they are drying right now...the steps ive done are this

    sand
    primer
    sand again
    spray black
    clear coat

now i have a lil bit of orange peel it doesnt look bad and i wouldnt mind putting them on the way they are but to get it out do i just wait a day and buff them? or how do i go about this!

    thanks!

to make it easier, i would wet sand them with 2000 grit, then polish. they're small enough that you can polish them with good old elbow grease.

yeah, the wet sanding should easily get rid of the orange peel for a showroom finish. then just cut the 2000 scratches away with some good polish.

i'm sure some others will chime in, i'm by no means a pro, but i've painted a few things in my day. although, i like the look of a nice uniform orange peel haha

I'll chime in a little bit. If you chose to wet sand, wait a couple days. This is ensure that the clear is fully cured! When you wet sand...soak the paper in a bucket of water for a 1-2 hours before you use it. It softens the paper. Its essential to do that step.

when you wetsand, don't use your hands, use soft block, this is so the surface is cut down evenly, producing that "glassy" look when the surface is polished.

the main thing is getting to match whatever the rest of the paint looks like. most cars have a shallow orange peel considering they don't get sanded with 2000+ grit from the factory. only show cars get that treatment. things like tails, interior trim, etc i could see wet sanding, but exterior? unless i was fixing a run or something, i would not wet sand with 2000+

    Re: Question about painting?

Yep go to the store and get some 1000,1500,2000 grit paper(it depends on how bad the orange peel is you might need to go down to 1000), the best polish you can find(recomend adams scratch&swirl remover),and your also going to need some good rubbing compound(anything 3M is the best thing you can get).

Wet sand it realy nice to your liking make sure you dont break through the clear that would ruin your day. Then hit it with the rubbing compoud, I like to use an actual buffer because it does a better job then you can do by hand and you will be there all day doing that stuff till your arm fell off. Also when you are doing the compoud its better to use an medium-aggresive pad so you can really take out the imperfections. After the compound you can also use adams reviving polish before the scratch and swirl remover for a perfect job but its not necessary. Then for the last step just hit it with your favorite car wax like Maguires or Mothers or something.

Thats what I do when I want to get a pefect paint job.
PM me if you have any more questions.
