Trip to Germany... Should I get goodies?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Guys,

I will be going to Germany this summer and wanted some input.

If I get some things for the RS4, such as the steering wheel and shift knob below, will I get it for cheaper there? Am I better off contacting someone here and getting the stuff?

Also, what are the chances of me getting those seats for a low price and bringing them back?

    Thanks!

You're going to have a tough time buying a wheel/bag from the German Audi dealers. There is some regulation that the gov't keeps track of all "non-accessory" parts like the steering wheel. Make sure you have all your part numbers with you unless you speak fluent German.

Maybe someone from Germany can chime in on this... ABT is over in Kempten if you are by Munich. Also not sure if you can transport an airbag through the airport - you'd probably have to ship it back.

Honestly, I think if you were on a trip to Germany, it would be a waste of time to go and attempt to obtain those parts. If you searched hard enough, you would be able to find, or order those parts online. just my input, if not, definetly get all 3 of those things, its sick!

You can ship goodies from there to here without paying VAT if it's bought and shipped directly overseas. Problem is that most things over there are waaaay more expensive than here.
I suggest you get drunk rather than buying overpriced RS4 items.
I loved the alcantera wheel when i drove a euro rs4 though, it's very nice...

    Cheers, and have fun!

You may not pay VAT, but you will have to deal with US customs..

Re: Trip to Germany... Should I get goodies?

Dealership prices really are not cheaper overseas, from someone that has a friend in germany check a couple prices for me..if anything they're more expensive. A RS4 only costs about $60-70 new here, but in germany, they're more like 80-120K cars. The stuff that's cheaper over there is acutaly the stuff not worth specialy importing, like motor oil (elf and the such) and G12, which he can get for $5 a gallon there (instead of $25).

what car rental company did you use to rent the RS4?

I'm heading over there soon, and want to do the same. I remember that one of the majors rents them for about 110 euros/day. Budget, Hertz or Avis.

    Thanks

Re: Trip to Germany... Should I get goodies?

I was in Germany a couple months ago and went to a dealer. The guys were pretty friendly and gave me pretty good pricing, but at the time the USD to Euro conversion rate was horrible so the price in dollars was almost 1.5x the price you could get it here in the states. Also if the exchange rate is better during the summer, make sure you go and see the dealer in the earlier part of your trip, that way if then need to get anything ordered in for you, you have enough time to order and pick up.

Have fun. The dark beer, sauerkraut and sausages are great, but my favorite was pork shoulder with potato dumplings!!!!!!!!!

they might require you to provide the VIN for an RS4 before you can purchase it. it is normally cheaper to get those in the US.
