Just picked up a CLEAN 2001 A6 quattro, gotta some questions?

I just picked up an 01 A6, AMAZING condition, not a scratch, no dents, interior is perfect shape, I couldn't be happier. it only had 53,000 miles... amazing for an 01.


So of the questions I have are....

The driver side mirror is blue glass, but doesn't tint. the passenger mirror is a clearer glass but self tints at night and has a rubber surround around the mirror glass it self... What one is factory?? lol

The rear sun shade worked when I got the car, I only used it twice... more or less just showing friends or family all the "features"

Well now it does not come up at all, when I hit the switch I can hear the relay (if I'm assuming correctly) trip, but it doesn't come it, this an easy fix? could it just be jammed? or is there a way to reset it?

The Steering wheel controls are shotty, they rarely work... I'm assuming this is typical and not a big deal as I'm replacing the factory unit this week with my DVD player and will loose that functionality anyway. (Then a month down the road I'll be replacing the DVD player with a Car PC)

The fog lights do not come on, when I pull the light nob out to the first stop, the fog light indicator does light up. Would it be a blown fuse or dead fog light bulbs?

I plan on doing several visual upgrades as well, I've been reading abit and searching but seem to be having a hard time finding good VW/Audi shops on the web... Ideas?

I'm looking to get a Devil Eye headlight kit, replace the factory HIDs (are they 4500?) with 6000k's

I'd like to find a LED fog light kit (or DIY one) matching the 6000k hue

And have an appointment for Feb 7th to do 20 tint.


Any ideas, webstores, group buys, or tips on the small issues I'm seeing would rock!

As far as the fog lights go....make sure the light switch is not in the auto mode. If it is, the forgs...front or rears will not come on. turn the switch all the way to the headlight on mode then the fogs should come on.

Cool deal, yeah I've tried it with the knob all the way to the right / headlight mode, the rear fog does come on, and the indicator light for the front fogs comes on, but the foglights them selves never have. I have yet to actually check the fuse block, I may do so today

grats on the purchase. just an FYI those devil eye lights you see on ebay are halogen, not HID. you would need to get an aftermarket ballast kit to convert them to HID from what ive been reading.

Yeah forget that then, not going thru the mess of converting back to HID.

Any good DIY threads for devil eyes? I've seen (somewhere, lord help me now if I try and find it again) where a kid took a LED light kit he picked up from IKEA and converted that into an LED fog lamp setup, I wonder if it's possible to toss my factories in the oven, pull them apart and follow suite but doing Devil Eyes instead?

Still debating too, all chrome headlights, or black/chrome since I'm doing tinted everything else

i had the same problem with my rear sunshade it went up one day and i noticed a loose rubber strip running along one of the legs supporting the shade popped it back into place and havn't had a problem yet.

Welcome. I used to have an IS as well. Although I miss certain things about that car. The 2JZGE was just no fun. The rear sun shade is hit or miss. Search over on Audiworld in the C5 section. I know I have seen a few write ups on fixing them. Check the fuse for the fogs. The guide for which one it is, is on the inside of the cover to access the fuses. The rear Euro fog uses the same fuse as the fronts. I have had the rear go out and cause the front not to work.

I would pull your engine cover and make sure the secondary intake runner arms are working as well. They are on the front of the motor and controlled by two big valves. If they are broken, you can be losing some decent hp. Search those terms, I posted pics of what Im talking about a few months ago.

Are any of ya'll into the whole Car Computer kick? I had a DVD player in my IS, putting it into my A6 but only until I finish my CarPC

i was going to build a car-computer. they are sweet. i decided to do an spl build instead. i may change it out sometime soon.

they have powersupplies specifically made for car computers. they have the connector to the motherboard like normal, then instead of you running a cable to a power outlet(or converter in this case) the power supply has wires built into it that you run to the front of your car and to ur battery. apparently when you turn off your car too, the computer will automatically do a proper shutdown aswell.

It was an option on the 4.2 too. Part of the PREMIUM PACKAGE. As far as I know it only became an option for 2.7t's after 02. I could be very wrong about that though.

thats a nice setup. i seen the link was from 06, the only thing id change in that setup is the HDD. id use one of those new flash solid state drives. no moving parts is awesome for this type of setup

my current double din head unit is starting to show signs of age since its almost 4 years old. i think im gonna build me a carputer this summer aswell, aslong as it still sounds decent (my current dd has 5v pre-outs to my amp, sound is amazing)

Yeah I listed a 16GB Solid State Disk (SSD). That is going to be for windows, using EWF to turn the drive into Read Only. Thus the OS drive never gets written to, never corrupts from an improper shut down, never changes.

You can turn off EWF and patch and turn it back on once changes are comitted =)

And also that thread started back in 06, but it's been live and active for 2 years, last posts were in December of 08 I think or even this year.

Pimp setups, I've been following the Carputer kick for awhile, I just finally have the time and money to do it ;) I tackled the MAME arcade this past spring, Carputer this winter, and this up coming spring will be 2 more MAME Arcades and a touch screen Jukebox for the home theater room ;)


Once I finish my Audi A6 skin for CentraFus, want a copy?

No Atom eh? the 330 is the Dual Core 1.6ghz. low voltage CPU. Don't really need much for a Car PC. I think that mobo/CPU combo is the most used over at mp3car.com. Sadly it's sold out on New Egg at the moment =/
