electronic problem on a ZF5hp19 ?? (please read)

all right, i've got an 03 A4 avant quattro with the tiptronic.

since i got it in may 2008 (97 000km) i'm was feeling something was wrong with it.

but right now is getting worst. at this time the car got 122 000km.

and, my trany doe a lot of strange thing.

first, in the last 6 months she was knocking often when she was downshifting. ( i mean, you run at 40 mph and you realy need to move away, you push the gaz pedal to the floor and your trany downshift to get a descent gear. that where she hit hard in gear.) mabey 1 time on 10 shift.

so, i send it to a garage to check if anything was wrong with it.

first, the hook the vag comm to see if she trowing a code. NO code.
they remove the filling plug to see if she was mabey low on oil , NO she was full. the oil was almost black. but audi told me it life time.

so they told me they got good result with a windextend trany additive. so i try it.

on the last month (we hit -30 where i'm living) my trany was hitting hard each time i put her in gear.

but the strangess thing is :

on morning, i start my car, let him rin for 15 mins (warm up) and finaly leave to lunch. the car was so hard to move. like the brake was still on. i'm was getting 5 psi steady to move the car forward. so i reach the highway and drive it up to 60 mph. at this time the trany was still in 3th gear and seem to be in that gear since i leave my parking (why it was so hard to move) i try the tiptronic but nothing happen. my trany wasen't shifting anymore, stuck in 3th gear. at this time i realize that in my cluster all the gear indication was highlight. (you got P = park --- N - neutral .. ect. whan you in P , you got just the park letter lightup.) so at this time, every letter was on ... all of them.

so, i drive until a reach a safe place and stop in a parking lot. she was still in 3th gear. so i shut off the car and restart it. FIX, like a new trany ... WTF. al gear was good, tip was good everything.

this happen another time few day ago.

so, anyone got an idea about this !!! is it a electronic problem ?

is it was mecanic, whis the hells by shutting off the car you can fix this ?

car now got 158k and still doing the same stuff !

trany still work great until she bang when i put here in reverse or sometime on hard downshift ...

any idea ?

It sounds like electrical problem, it could be number of things,

There is a gearshift switch located near transmission that tells which gear the transmission is.. and it is connected by link to gear shifter inside the cabin, there is a chance could be a link have shifted and points to wrong gear and computer doesn't know which gear that tranny is

there is a well a circuit board behind the shifter inside the cabin could be a contact dirty or got wet from coffee spill or in that nature.

I would suggest to visit dealer and have them diagnose the problem, because you don't want to find out at the end that the transmission is needed of repair after replacing the parts

Hey guys, I got the same problem, I think... it runs fine. But once a week I start the car and all of the lights are lite up and when I shift to drive it feels like its in a third gear. Anyways. I just turn the car off then back on and its fixed every time...car shifts like its brand new now other problems for now. Now when I start the car, if all of the gears are lite up, I don't eve try to shift it, I just turn it off and then back on, and its fixed every time...let me know if you find anything out! And ill do the same
