Secondly, the front license plate negatively affects the efficiency of the vehicle by interrupting the aerodynamics with the plate at the vehicle's primary point of attack. Further, many vehicles suffer further losses in efficiency with the front plate's blockage of large portions of the front air-intake of the vehicle, resulting in increased fuel consumption, and increased greenhouse emissions.

The whole thing is a weak argument. If you got every single person in the province to sign the petition, I don't think it'd happen. Democracy has its limits. :P

Seriously though... there are rare occurrences where front plates are used to identify people who are speeding away from accidents etc. I've been tailgated by a psycho before, and it was nice to nab his plate # after a hard pull to get some distance.
While these situations are rare... they are enough to warrant putting up with an ugly front plate.

Haha, funny thing is... I am actually driving sans front plate right now.
I can't find screws that fit and are long enough! I use a plate cover that protects it... Hrm.

That's weird... I take mine off and clean 'em a couple times a year anyways.
I hope that law is referring to them being dirty UNDER the cover... as that does happen over time. Otherwise, the law is as crazy as it sounds, I guess? Hrm.

Yeah, the tinted/coloured ones... I figured they might get you into trouble sometimes.
They look like ass anyways. Blue covers? Seriously. Even on a blue car... gross.

lol yea they dont look the greatest. his car is midnight blue. looks black, but has blue pearl in it. cops are pricks to honda drivers around these parts

I had personalized plates and without plate covers the coating completely erroded within a year. A complete waste of money to not be legally allowed to protect. I have one cop in my town who is competely out for me with regards to the plate, otherwise I have never had any officer ever notice.

Weird that clear ones are illegal... a lot of dealerships include clear plate covers. I got my first A4 at Downtown Porsche, and their plate covers are sweet! :)
Ah well, I will use them until I experience a problem.

The MTO offices used to or still do, sell these clear covers. Go figure.

That's one of the best parts, they sell them for use but make no mention that they aren't really allowed. Touch wood, I've had no issue with a plate cover, it isn't too dark and always clean so you can read the license plate and tag.

I think that it'd fall under one of those "stick it to 'em" type of fines... No cop will ever write you a ticket for a plate cover... but he might write you up for careless and a plate cover. If you've given the cop a reason to dislike you, he'll wanna throw the book at you. I've seen people on our public roads do things that would have me writing them a book of tickets, for every little thing I could come up with... with the hope that it'd break the bank, and make 'em sell the car. Haha

I was pulled over for having a plate cover the day after I put one on my old golf a few years back. I explained to the cop that I bought it from the MTO and he agreed it was stupid they sold them but you're not allowed to use them. He ended up just letting me go with no ticket.

I've also had ~3 no front plate tickets on my BMW, but I knew the risks when I chose to run without a plate. It's not the end of the world - it's a $110 ticket.

The S4's keeping a front plate because it's my daily and I don't want any hassles!

the law is never going to pass.

sac up and remove it if you REALLY dont want it there. I havent had one for over a year, 3 warnings, same answer each time, no tickets.
