I think my turbo died today.....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So i headed onto the parkway as i always do in the morning. I began to accelerate and as i was approaching redline i went to shift and the car jerky violently forward and then a black cloud of smoke came from the exhaust! In all my experiences when you see a black cloud its generally the turbo. I wound up making it to work, limping here on just the 4 banger. I am not sure what to do now, i could drive the car home but i do not feel safe doing so just yet. Any advice? Anyone selling a turbo cheap to hold me over until i upgrade again?

Can someone from APR chime in as to what you think i should do? Keith/Mike??

    Thanks

    John,

By your description I can't speculate as to what happened. Maybe it was an ic hose? Have you had a chance to inspect it?

Re: I think my turbo died today.....

Sorry for the false alarm, not the turbo..... its the pesky cam lobe, so far thats where things are pointed. the Vag keeps showing low fuel rail pressure, so that can only be the issue.

Re: I think my turbo died today.....

Well the check engine finally decided to go on, vag'ed it once more and its has all three times been the same low fuel rail presure code. I am not convinced its the fuel pump follower or cam lobe. I know this may sound crazy but my car was in the shop (anchor - which i cannot say anything bad about) and when i told John, my service rep, i asked about the cam follower issue. He told me unless the check engine light was on they do not check it. I cannot believe a week later it happened!!

Dave, i will most certainly keep you posted. In the mean time i would either look into checking your fuel pump lobe or look to upgrade it.

yea, thanks man, I check into upgrading that. I went a little mod crazy over the past few weeks and have to sell some parts before I buy any more lol, but this one sounds necessary

With all do respect, John is a bullshit artist. Deal with another dealership thats mod friendly. They just want to get money out of you. Good luck with the fix. Usually the outcome when negative things happen is even better than what you had before...maybe youl go stage 17!

Re: I think my turbo died today.....

The problem is that the party line from AoA relayed through dealers is a policy of sticking their heads in the sand on the cam lobe problem, hoping it will go away if they ignore it, hoping owners will be willing to pony up for a new cam and follower down the road out of warranty. What they fail to understand, of course, is even their own history of class action lawsuits, and how this is moving that direction already... As this weak point in this engine gets documented more and more, they're either going to have to come up with a fix, or start covering the part longer than they'd like to. Their preference, right now of course, is not to check it, and that way they won't have the documentation needed for later action. They'd much rather screw the customers of higher mileage cars, continuing to ignore the impact of long term repair costs in owners' minds on their reputation.

We see you, AoA, and we're documenting your behavior. You'll pay for this in the end. Perhaps you'll stand behind your engineering prowess you like to advertise so highly, and make this problem right!
