I am in the process of installing my x-1 intake and was wondering what I am supposed to do with the sensor like things that are connected to the stock airbox lid.

The are ECM's and I would mount them in a safe location away from as much heat as you can

    Re: installing intake

your intake should have come with a mounting plate for those sensors that gets screwed into the firewall/shock tower area near the fuel lines.

IMO No, the wires will move around adn eventualy cause you issue with miss fires ect, mount them, it should only take a few minutes to fab a bracket up or put them on the fire wall with the plate from the airbox,

    Re: installing intake

Honest question - why did you feel it was necessary to get this intake? Performance, sound?

Since all my other vehicles have been of the jdm variety, I have to fight every urge I have to install an intake in my S4 as that's usually the first mod done to my 4 bangers.

    Re: installing intake

IMO. sound will be the only real benefit other than looks under the hood. The stock airbox is a TRUE cold air intake and it is VERY good. the stock filter is also very good if it is changed regularly. There are S4's running 10's and low-mid 11's on stock airbox and filter. I do think some of the aftrmarket stuff is pretty cool, but in a lot of cases they can actually hurt performance. Heat soak etc. I am not saying anything about specific brands as i haven't seen all of them. But until i need to worry about breaking into the 10's, stock aribox for me. But to answer the OP's ?.... Those are ignition modules. do the right thing and anchor them properly. Good luck!

    Re: installing intake

Somewhat offtopic, but how are people running upgraded MAF's on stock airbox or RS4 components? If you say just get an RS4 airbox and accordian hose, I thought that was for an 83mm MAF.. how are people stuffing 85/88/90mm MAFs inside a 83mm hole?.. sounds dirty.

I got it basically for the looks and because I had some extra money laying around. I love the carbon fiber look and how it looks similar to the one on my is300

do I have to unplug the battery after installing the intake or what is the proper way to reset the computer to recognize it?

Yes, always good to pull the batt. terminal for 15 mins or so. Just make sure you have your radio code handy.

I'd do a throttlebody adaptation as well, just cause.

    Re: installing intake

TBA - just put the key in the ignition, turn it on but don't start it. Wait 3 mins. Then start it.

Whenever you pull the battery, you have to re-enter your radio security code. It should be located in your owners manual as a sticker or written in.

    Re: installing intake

Well, it's a min of 3 mins. I wouldn't leave it more than 5 or 10 but I don't see the harm in doing it. Just count backwards from 180.

it should be metal to metal. If i remember correctly that is a way for them to desapate heat. Dont want to have to replace them.

Odd. If mine is disconnected at all, regardless of time, I have to enter the code again.

I connected them to the metal plate that came with the intake kit. I just temporarely mounted the metal plate against the carbon fiber till I can get a hold of a drill to permanetly mount it
