Stage III here I come

Hello again guys,

As I have recently posted, I blew my K03's and am going K04's on my 2000 S4 TIP. Here's a list of everything I plan on purchasing within the next week:

Aftermarket parts:
- RS4 K04's
- K04 Hardware
- RS4 K04 Inlets
- Aftermarket Motor Mounts
- IPT Torque Converter
- IPT Fully built TIP transmission
- Stage III- tune from Chris Tapp
- 2001.5 turbo oil lines
- Samco TBB
- Making fully gutted piggies (I'm emissions exempt to I will be completely gutting both pre-cats and post-cats)
- Snub Mount

Maintenance parts:
- Timing belt/water pump kit
- Spider hose assembly w/ puck valve
- Power Steering Pump
- ABS Module repair


Already have:
- Bailey's DVs
- UUC VM1 cat-back
- eBay Front Mount Intercooler
- Stage II tune from Chris Tapp (he's willing to cut me a deal on a K04 tune)

QUESTIONS:
1. Are there any suggestions for items that I should also be looking into?
2. The transmission that I am purchasing is out of a 2001.5 S4 TIP, it includes a VAST TCU, but it is not the same TCU model as mine. Will I need to simply swap TCU's, or will I need to reprogram my current TCU? Will anything special need to be done for the tranny swap?
3. What can I expect to sell the stock tranny for with 103K miles on it?
4. Any suggestions for this project? I'll be doing it myself in my garage.

a 2000 and a 2001 car TCU may not work, Dose the 01 has ESP? if so You may have an issue. from what I have learned a ECU and TCU need to be the same code , for example my car is an 01 and I have a L box ECU and an L box TCU. you may want to talk to the compainy doing your fuel kit and tune to se if the TCU and ECU will work ok, but fiend out if the trans donar car has ESP or not, some early 01,s did not. I just wrapping up a trans fix/rebuild after blowing my TIp trans wile running full stg 3 TQ, If you are not sure of the state of the trans you are buying I may not hurt to have it checked out befor you install it, Also make sure that your TC is good as well if not replace or send it out for a good rebuild/upgrade. Vast or 517 trans I recomend. Also replace your motor/trans/diff mounts Good luck and if you have ? Regardless you should install a heatshield of sorts on the passenger side oil line. It runs within 2 inches of the manifold and is what many believe causes the passenger side turbo to fail more often than the drivers. I used a sparkplug boot from Napa.

I own a condo in Summit county - which is where my car is registered, which also happens to be an emissions exempt county.

without a lift? i have no idea if it can or can't be done, but i know you can rent them for a decent price, doing that might be your best bet if you don't have a friend that can lend you one. sure is better renting one for ($100? i dunno haha) than paying $2500 for labour imo

A lift isn't necessary, an engine hoist is though. If its your first motor pull in any car just follow the write up closely, mark all your bolts as you take them out and take your time.

Everything is disconnected on the motor/tranny now except for the front half-shafts. We're getting there. Plan on having it all out by tomorrow. Still waiting for the transmission though before everything goes back in.

Why'd you take the hood off? I never thought of that, lol. It would make for some nice extra room though in the 5 minutes it takes to remove it. Good luck on your install, and make sure you don't have any bolts left at the end!

Na, he was hiding in the dead turbo.... bastard was probably the reason why it died. lol.
