Question Expensive valve cover gasket repair?

So I've had the hot oil/burning smell coming from the vents. I went to the dealer they quoted me 6hrs labor and $560 total. This seemed high to me. There is a great shop I'm my town that deals with Audi, Porsche, and bmw. I need to check with them as well. What do you guys think, high price?
    Thanks in advance.

560 total thats not that bad to do both valve coer gaskets. If you think its high do it yourself. Alldata says 3 hours a side. you have to remove all coil packs the harness and everything above the covers. And all those bolts in the cover. Thiers like 20 for each one.

It certainly doesn't take 3 hours to perform this job. The only issue i can see the techs running into is removing the lower rearmost valve cover bolts. Other than that it only takes a half hour to remove all of the engine covers, airbox, MAF, coolant tank, coil packs and the valve covers.

If you are mechanically capable id suggest doing it yourself. The valve cover gaskets are $60 tops depending on where you go.

Hell i did my vc gaskets on my B5 S4 so the B6 should be easier. I say day job. Grab some beer and have at it if you have the means. 500 bucks is 500 bucks, especially now a days.
