    Question Help with tire decisions!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I will soon be returning from Afghanistan. I have already received my coilovers and exhaust for my B7 A4. I bought a set of the VMR 710's in hyper silver to go on a Light Silver Metallic B7. I need some help in deciding on some summer tires in a 235/35/19. The following are the ones i have narrowed it down to: Toyo Proxes T1R, Falken Tire FK-452, or the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta. Please let me know if you have them and experiences you have had. If you have not had experience with any of them, your opinion won't help any. I need first hand experience here folks. Thanks for your help.

Toyo T1R. Lightest and best performing of the ones you listed. I run them on my car and switched over from PS2's. You wont be disappointed. Did I mention they are the lightest by far? Case closed, done deal, end of thread!

    Re: Help with tire decisions!!!

Have the Vredesteins here, definitely a great tire, for the price especially. Performance Plus tire. I don't know their weight, but the Toyos have long been the lightest weight tire. That's all fine and good from a performance standpoint, as long as their built well, which I believe they are. Several sets of tires back, I did the Toyo "test drive" thing and ended up returning the Toyos for a set of Bridgestone SO3's, which just had more grip. Overall, I think all these tires are about the same, so I'd go on price. I went through a comparison similar to yours, and chose the Sessantas ultimately based on price and their massive rain grooves, because it's wet a lot around here. Have been absolutely satisfied. That said, I think there are definitely better tires out there with more max grip, but you've picked a solid set of very good tires. I think the Sessantas win on overall price vs. performance, and the Toyos are great tires also, possibly with a slight edge in performance if their weight is significantly less, but perhaps less of a difference than others might have you believe. Cheers....

i have 452's and I think they are awesome. Great grip in the dry and the wet. Low road noise. I'm surprised at how quiet they are for a low-pro tire. And the tread pattern looks awesome!

    Falken 26.3 lbs
    Vredestein 24.89 lbs
    Toyo 22.0 lbs

You are already choosing a fairly heavy rim. I recommend trying to offset that by going with the lightest tire. It would be one thing if the lightest tire in this case wasnt the best performer, but it is.

I have heard nothing but great things about the Falkens, but you are choosing from 3 quality tires. I'd go with the best price

    Re: Help with tire decisions!!!

If you already have some heavy wheels losing 2lbs per corner isn't going to be a huge difference. The Ultrac Sessanta have awesome grip on the street and they're nice and quiet. Toyo's are often noisy.

    Re: Help with tire decisions!!!

I want to thanks you guys for your help. I have heard of alot of people running the Vredesteins and have problems with sidewall split. Is this still an issue? Also how is the wet traction on the Vredesteins? Also any issues with flat spotting? I am currently running my stock 17's with the Dunlop wintersport 3D's year round. Yes I know it is a winter tire, but when I was stationed in Germany when i bought the car, the originalls literally scared the crap out of me in the rain. Awesome in the snow too. Currently on second set. With the Dunlops I have been able to drive 90+ comfortably in the rain with them on since I got back to the states. Never had an issue wih hydroplaning also very predictable. Again thanks for your help.

I think he is looking at only this 3 because of the value, you get those and the price goes higher from what I remember.

    Re: Help with tire decisions!!!

I'd go Toyo T1R, as they are the lightest out of the ones your listed (unsprung weight v. more grip from a better tread pattern...this is hard to choose).
Just don't settle for Kumho SPT's, I'm doing everything that I can to wear them out ASAP because of how crappy they are. I'm more willing to go back to them OEM Continental CSC2's rather than spend another minute on those Kumhos.

    Re: Help with tire decisions!!!

Hey guys, thanks for the help. As soon as i can figure out how to post pics i will show you my Deployment Quattro. I think you'll like it. I think i am either going to go with the Falkens or the Vredesteins. Once i get back home and get my stuff put on then i will post some pics. Still any other personnal dealings with any of the tires i listed would be great. Hope to meet some of you guys either in FT Campbell or at some of the VW/Audi club meets.

    Re: Help with tire decisions!!!

FK452's FTW! I have a set of 225/40/18 and they are awesome. For a lo-pro tire they absorb bumps very well. They are also very quiet. Even on louder road surfaces. I'm going to ATL airport tomorrow morning. It will be the first 50+ mile trip on them. I'll post a review once I get into the Airport. (iPhone + 3g = Awesome!) I will tell you that they are very stable at high speeds. There is much less body roll, b/c of the stiffer sidewall, compared to the all seasons.
