Looking To Lowball A B6 Seller. I Could Use Some Help.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
You guys may remember me from about a week ago when I thought I was going to buy a blue 3.0 that had several problems. Well, I decided it wasn't worth it and I could use some help on getting a deal on this car: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e&rdpage=thumb. I'm into my blues at the moment, but I'm having a tough time finding a manual blue A4. Obviously this car posted above is extremely over priced, it's advertised about 5,000 above KBB prices and KBB doesn't take into consideration the economy. I haven't yet contacted the dealer, but my sinister plan is to lowball the piss out of them using other audizine members. I do kind of feel like a dick taking advantage of you guys, but if any of you would be kind enough to take five minutes out of your day to call the dealership and explain to them how you would buy the car if it was advertised at a much lower price. Frankly it's frustrating if this beast http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e&rdpage=thumb is selling for less than the A4 posted above. When a blue A4 is in my presence it brings tears to my eyes because of how close I am physically able to get to it, but yet how far it is from me in the sense that manipulative dealers restrain me from allowing myself to admire its beauty from the luxury of my home because of their consistent overpricing. I've been lingering on the thought of purchasing a manual blue B6 A4 for quite some time now, but that thought is slowly fading away and purchasing a MK4 VW now enters my mind. I know all of you have experienced the stresses of buying a used car and to be honest with you, I don't necessarily have the aggressive personality to deal with these pricks. I would greatly appreciate it if you guys could butter them up for me.

hahaha what a deal!.... not. I would get that S4, I bet you could lowball the seller to 16k, and practically steal that thing.

No need to butter up the dealer, Odds are likely it is overpriced because the car has been in inventory awhile and the dealer is now burried in it because of the economy slump. Give them your best offer if they want to move the old inventory and take the hit, that is inevitable to happen, they will work with you. The car market is still stagnant, they should be very enthusiastic in trying to work the deal and rememeber its the buyers market right now, be patient.

I bought the same car, in grey 6 months ago when the economy wasn't in the shitter for 14k with 62k miles. This car is worth at the most 13k and should be purchased for about 12k. And you wonder why chevy needed a bailout...

Tried to send that, but evidently 'shitter' isn't allowed, so I had to replace that with toilet.

It did make me splooge some, although If I can reason with the dealer and get him to knock off a decent 6k (yeah, i'm dreamin), then I'll go for the A4. There must be a reason to why the B6 is so expensive though, maybe a new timing belt or something. This caught my eye yesterday, looks clean as hell: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst...001287332.html (still has a warranty and women driven so probably wasn't driven hard). Its just that I like the relatively funky colors; blue, yellow, red, orange (I absolutely adore an MK4 in orange), etc. I'm not sure if i'd be able to live with a black or silver car.

Cars that are in the showroom and are largely overpriced are cars that the dealer really doesn't want to sell. So you're best bet is to keep looking.

For example at OR Audi in Burnaby there has been an S5 on sale forever. It's got 15k on it and asking for 6k MORE thans MRSP.... it looks great in the showroom with it's LEDs on and it will stay there.

    Another silver B6

Why not take them in the listing of that S4 in addition to the KBB page when you're negotiating? Seriously that car isn't worth more than $14k in todays market though, and that might be overpriced a bit.

I offered the dealer 4k below there asking price of 19k and they took it. The car only had 36k miles on it and it's a 2004. Make an offer. They are car salesmen they will call and bug you they want to sell a car at this point they will take almost anything. But don't give in to there first counter offer. You need to be a better salesmen then them

Re: Looking To Lowball A B6 Seller. I Could Use Some Help.

I bought my 2003 3.0 MT6 with cold weather package for that same price 1 year ago, with 2yr Audi CPO included (42K on the clock)!

I would go into the dealership with your checkbook and an interesting novel. Low-ball them (maybe offer 9K? 8K?) and if the first salesdroid blows you off, ask to talk to the sales manager; stress that you'd like to buy the car today if you can agree on a price.

Then it will be hours and hours of painful back-and-forth while they offer to sell it to you for $500 less than the previous offer. bump your offer up and sit back and read another two chapters of your book.

Whatever you do, don't give them your drivers license or any other bit of your personal property as they will hold on to it preventing you from leaving.

On the other hand, threatening to leave (if they don't have your DL), is a good way to accelerate their price drops.

Depending on the sales guys, they may not drop their price very quickly. Be ready for the long, long wait. You'll see the salesman and sales manager talking, going out for a smoke, eating lunch/dinner, flirting with the receptionist, all while they are "considering your offer". They're going to be there all day anyway, and tomorrow and the next day, too. So they'll ignore you and hope you give in and move your offer up in price to end the torture.

Don't do it... just read your book. Or maybe playstation if you've got the battery life! Oh, this tactic doesn't work so well if you're getting financing from the dealer... get financing lined ahead of time from your bank/credit union.

Re: Looking To Lowball A B6 Seller. I Could Use Some Help.

Just print out the KBB pricing sheet for that year/mileage/optioned car. You can carfax it to see if it's been in any accidents and repaired. Look on autotrader for what that money will buy you locally. Then go to the dealer and make them an offer. When they begin haggling with you begin presenting the info. Chances are they will sell it at it's market value.

Worst case is they say no. Tell them good luck selling a 5 year old car that is significantly overpriced. Walk away.

Dealers get their cars from auctions and/or trade-ins. They pay significantly less for the car that the listed price. There is a huge amount of wiggle room. Dealers will easily be able to drop it to fair market value and still make a profit. I was looking at a car once with a price tag of $27k, and in 15 mins the 'buy it today' price dropped to $20k. So just remember thousands can easily come off the sticker of a used car.
