Saw BJ Penn on my way home from Hilo today.

Had to go to Hilo for work for the day. On my flight back, I saw BJ and his team getting ready to head up to Vegas for the big fight. He was on my flight on the way back to Honolulu. Pretty nice guy. Was shaking hands and taking pictures with a lot of people at the airport while he was waiting to board. There was a small camera crew there recording but for the most part he seemed like a pretty down to earth guy. Just sat on the side and waited his turn to board.

    Go BJ!

I really like both of these fighters, but when comparing the two, I seem to lean towards GSP and have more respect for his complete dedication to the sport. But for BJ to be where he is while coasting through some of his training camps says alot for the guys skill level.

Ive got GSP winning the fight in a 5 round split decision. Even though a Penn win would lead to a 3rd 'rubber match' between the two and would be a huge super-fight = major payday for both of them.

Against anyone else GSP is a great fighter, but I'm gonna watch BJ Penn Smash GSP's Face just like he did the first time they fought, and take his welterweight belt.

Lol, he earned his right to talk smack. I like him. I've seen him a couple of times and even though sometimes he seemed nicer than others, he still deserves to be respected. I hope he wins the fight!

BTW, I was taking my boy driving right around in the valley in Aina Haina and I drove right next to Chris Leben standing outside a house over here. Not sure what he was doing, but he was on the phone and it seemed like he was trying to get in touch with someone.

I personaly dont think the fight will get out of the first round, but no matter waht happens, it is still the fight of the century! Any way, Good luck to BJ!

I'm not really a huge BJ fan, I think he's a thug or at least used to be. But if there is one thing I can't stand... it's GSP's french canadian ass. F*ck that guy! I hope BJ beats the crap out of him. If he doesn't I'm staying in my house when all the locals go on a war path against any Haole guy who happens to be around.

Penn sucks and he is going to get his ass kicked in the first round and as far as that first fight GSP got his nose broken and then came back and made BJ look like a bitch the belt will stay here in canada and penn should just worry about his fight with florian and keep his fat ass out of a real champs weight class that's my 2 cents

Hey bro if you are serious and not just joking with that comment, that really not cool and very disrespectful. For you to come in the hawaii sub forums and say that, we do not have any negative crap in the hawaii subs so why would you go and say that. That comment should of went in the sports sub forum, where this subject is already being talked about. So if you do not mind taking your negative comment out of the hawaii sub, mahalos.

Yeah, GSP didnt make BJ Penn look like a bitch at all in their first fight, he just got robbed of the win pretty badly because of GSP's little takedowns.

true he did get his face tagged a few times, but Penn forgot that that doesn't win you the fight. Just as the Superbowl trophy doesn't get handed to the team that scored the nicest touchdown,it's the team that wins the game.

GSP showed Penn once, and will kill him this time as his striking has improved dramatically since then, while Penn has just gotten lazier.

Penn should be forced to give up his lightweight belt as punishment for talking shit and losing twice to GSP.

I thought Penn was the greatest BJJ practitioner in America? He did NOTHING in that fight. His stand up was definitely sharper (he's real quick) but GSP dominated him on the ground.

Do you guys know how they score these fights? because it seems like you think one good shot to the nose , an EYE GOUGE and a failed submission attempt count for more points than

    ground domination
    pace
    ring control
    headkicks
    takedowns
    submission defence
    takedown defence
    ....

dude...clearly you didn't read my post. The opinion was based on 2 things

    1. pride (Canadian fighter...of course we'll support him)
    2. logic - go read my posts and you'll understand why GSP was destined to win the fight...this fight was the most lopsided BEATDOWN that Penn has ever received, and that George has ever dished out. It wasn't even remotely close. GSP KILLED Penn.

was it BJ's own brother who tossed the towel in? shame.

BJ should be slapped for running his mouth off and then showing up out of shape. He should be embarrassed, and all you Hawaii boys should give him an earful next time you see him out late drinking and fucking the dog. He did none of you any good with this performance

He's now 4-4 in his last 4 fights. Every time he has fought someone good, he has had his ass beat. The prodigy? hmmm

In the 1st fight, BJ was strong in the 1st round, but 2nd and 3rd rounds, you clearly see BJ was out of gas. Georges had him pinned against the fence most of the time and BJ got taken down more than he should have.

Re: Saw BJ Penn on my way home from Hilo today.

From what I seen of the fight tonight when I got home form work, GSP looked fricken amazing and very very driven. It was like when he fist came on the scene but with a whole new level of experience. BJ...He did not do too good at all. Like it was stated before his stand up looked good. But man its the dedication to the training and to the fight that was lacked.

So since we got out of the way. I understand you canadians have a lot of pride for GSP, as we do BJ. I for one like both fighters, I take BJ for personal reason (not betting). What I do not get is why you ******s come on here and post very disrespectful things in the hawaii sub. And yes I am talking about you sakimano! So you are asking if we know how they judge a fight? So that remark you are making is going to all of us which includes me, right? I think I may have some insight on how they judge MMA and other MA. But I am not going to sit here and explain to you my background in this, lets just say its ENOUGH. I am by no means saying its more then you but I am pretty sure it is,lol. So why cant you just come here with out disrespecting us "hawaii" people and have some good convo. Good rivalry makes it fun, but comments like yours gets people a little ticked off bro. I am not trying to act up on the internet, cause I would tell all of this to your face if I could. Please do not take that the wrong way and think I am saying that I would want to fight you if a seen you around. But the way you talk I would not mind handing you an invitation to one of our BJJ seminars and we could throw some gloves on. You know for the fun of it.

Much respect goes out to GSP, Top notch fight he put on. He gave a good ass whopping and pretty much defended everything that was thrown at him.

    Alohaz Everyone.

You are absolutely right about the fight. BJ had a bad night and GSP had an awsome night. You are also right about BJ not winning someof his most recent fights, but are your seriously saying that Jens Pulvers, Sean Sherk and Joe Stevenson are not "good fighters"?

BJ is somewhat of a hometown hero for me, so please forgive me if I still look foward to the future that BJ has in the UFC. Just because he doesn't have a good fight does not mean thate we as fans will abandon him.

I don't personally know him but I do have some close friends that work/hang out with him being that I'm from Hilo too. I am proud for what he has accoplished and what he tried to accomplish.

If you don't like that, then please go back to your section of the forums and leave us alone...

    ^^Agree.

And Sorry Jens is a stand up dude, He is a true pioneer for his weight class. Show some respect for what he has done for the sport. Man you really need to train with some real pro's and some of the guys names that are coming out of your mouth. Joe is an animal, he lived up the street from me in Vegas and have trained with him in the past. I have yet to meet sherk so can not comment other then he looks like a freakin beast.

Re: Saw BJ Penn on my way home from Hilo today.

I said nothing against you as Hawaiians or BJ as a Hawaiian, so don't try to make this personal! I hate him as a loud-mouth, cocky, overrated douchebag of a fighter. I don't care if he's from Hawaii, or Russia...same thing.

I was speaking to people who blindly support BJ Penn. There are lots of you out there, and last night you were all reminded by GSP that Penn just isn't that great. He's good, not great.

We'll see, but I reckon he'll lose the LW belt soon. He has had what...1 defense of his title? Against Stevenson? Whoever thinks Stevenson Pulver and Sherk are great really needs to understand something...while they may have ONCE been good/great, but recently, when BJ beat them they most definitely were not. Pulver has 1 win in his last 6 fights. In other words, he's 1-5. Great? No...washed up. Same with Stevenson, and Sherk has just done NOTHING since his steroid suspension.

Which brings me back to my first point...not because Penn is Hawaiian...but because he's just not that good, and because he goes out of his way to disrespect his opponents, disrespect the sport, and give himself a bad name.

That is an ignorant statement. Let's put GSP in the ring with BROCK and see if he looks like a "great" fighter.

Please compare apples to apples? Brock would man handle GSP. Yea, let's let BROCK lay on top of GSP for 3 rounds and see how GPS looks. That does not take away from that fact that GSP is still a great fighter but they make weight classes for a reason. If BJ was as ripped as GSP is, he'd probably give up 40 lbs to GSP.

The same applies to BJ. Put him back in the weight class that he belongs in and he will look "great" once again.
    '
And the remark about us "blindly" supporting BJ shows that you are just simple. No one here blindly supports him. Alot of that trash talk comes with the territory when you are a fighter. Seriously, you act like he is the only fighter to ever talk shit. I hear it every time the interview a fighter. So please, get off of you soap-box.

The MAIN difference here is that he is such a great fighter that he is in the spotlight WAY more than other fighters are. When is the last time you've seen a primetime special where they followed Matt Serra or Lyoto? You haven't therefor you are not going to see the other fighters talk as much shit.

The bottom line to me is this...Unless you are tough enough to beat BJ yourself, then maybe you should "STFU".

Re: Saw BJ Penn on my way home from Hilo today.

Yeah, people need to stick to their weight classes. BJ will stay on top of the light weight as long as he wants to... which is the sad part.

The thing about GSP is that he is at the pinnacle of the welterweight division. He is all muscle at 170 and trains with the best. That is the bottom line. It is what it is. He works hard and displays it. He comes in with a sick game plan and employs it. I am a fan of both fighters, but BJ tried to step into GSP's world. I can't imagine gaining 15 lbs. of fight weight to try and fight someone who loses fifteen to fight in the class.

Re: Saw BJ Penn on my way home from Hilo today.

your example sucks balls. Here's why

    1. Penn is a fat 155 who is moving one class (by choice) to 170 for GSP...and you're saying it's like comparing the fictitious case of GSP moving up to heavyweight to fight 260 pound Brock Lesnar? pfft

    2. Penn CHOSE this fight

    3. Penn CHOSE this, THEN TRASHTALKED THE FUCK out of GSP before the fight.

Still think your GSPvsLesnar makes sense?

as for Serra prime time special, there was a special when he was about to fight GSP. As for Machida, he barely speaks english douchebag...nice fucking example.

Just admit that Penn embarassed himself in the ring. It'll feel better to let go. He's the moron you're mad at...not GSP, not me. PENN is the moron who is now 1-3 when fighting above 155...so tell him to stay at 155 where he occasionally wins fights, and to SHUT HIS YAP whenever he gets the urge to trash talk all the 170 guys.

Like I said, feel free to tell him yourself. Are you scared? Aw come on now, an e-thug like yourself, you'd never be afraid of a "moron" like BJ huh?

As far as a GSP Lesner fight, I merely used that as an example. BUT you give any good fighter 40 pounds over GSP and chances are he can just lay on GSP the whole match like GSP likes to do. Watch that match again, GSP was afraid to exchange with BJ. He clinched EVERY single time he had the chance.

Again, it is easy for people like you to join the internet, jump on a random forum and get them some e-muscles, so you do not impress me with the names calling and the "look at me, I'm a tough guy" mentality.

Now, have a good life and don't forget to take your asthma medication...

EDIT: BTW, when GSP decideds to step up to Silva, I really don't think GSP is going to stand a chance. BUT THEN AGAIN, Silva is not the type to lay all over people. He actually likes to trade, so we'll see!

I speak for myself the only reason I got upset with you was that you sounded very disrespectful. I understand that you seen as BJ disrespected GSP. That does not give you the right to come in here and say the things you said about him and the people that post in here. GSP choose not to talk shit back (which I applaud) he just choose to stay focused and train hard. And let his performance do the talking, I by god was he yelling in the ring, lol.

Listen up. You opened that door with your ignorant statement as quoted below:

You're the dummy that thinks one/all of us should say something to BJ, so of course I'm going tell you to do it yourself. But you won't because IRL your probably not so tough. Again, you talk the talk, but your just an idiot...E-GANGSTA FTL!

Oh, and while I might not speak for everyone in the section, I know I speak for some when I say that you had NO business coming in here and disrespcting not only BJ but us. AND I speak for myself when I say that you sir are an asshat.

Go troll another section of the forums and show them how simple you are as you have already proven that here. No need to make yourself look any more stupid with your insightful posts'. Good day to you...
