Well, if you're really ambitious (and daring), you could dismantle the key fob and the ignition switch assembly, mount the immobilizer chip capsule near the reader coil, and rewire the accessory, ignition, and starter to switches. Then you can do a keyless "airplane-like" startup... master, fuel, ignition, crank 'er up!
The issue of course would be security... anyone could jump in and drive off without a key. Maybe wire in a keypad security system... enter a PIN, hit the button, and VROOM!
Or use a bank of switches where certain ones have to be on and certain ones off in order for the car to start. Eight of them would be 256 combinations, which would slow down a joyrider. Make it so the starter button works with the wrong combinations, so they have to crank the engine to see if it'll start. The repeated crank attempts might get someone's attention.
