    Acceptable Knock Voltage Range

So I thought i would post this here considering im getting no help in the general forum.

Trying to figure out if my car is running properly. Been doing some logs and have been getting some high timing CF's (8-11* in every cylinder).

So today I did a log of knock voltage and am seeing as much as 17V in each cylinder. Is this something to worry about?

    Re: Acceptable Knock Voltage Range

I was unable to view your spreadsheet but I guess I don't need to to answer your question. You really cannot determine anything from viewing the knock voltage as a singular reading. what the ECU is looking for is a change in the knock voltage. Some engines are "noisier" than others and will run a higher sound (knock voltage) reading. As long as the knock voltage remains stable the ECU doesn't do anything. But when the ECU sees a change (increase) in the voltage signal it interprets it as a "knock" and begins to pull timing. You need to be concerned with the amount of CF rather than the knock voltage.

    cheers!

    Hmmm works for me.

If you don't mind, can you pm me your email so I can send you the excel sheet?

From what I can tell something doesn't look right. Although im not an expert by any means.

    Re: Acceptable Knock Voltage Range

Ok, so something is definitely wack.

Went on a road trip to Kamloops for the weekend. The route takes me up the Coquihalla highway and through the old tole booth. For anyone who doesn't know, its a very long a steep climb probably a good 15-20min of steep climbing.

After about 5 min into the climb I lost boost, wouldn't do more then 5psi. Came to a flat spot and 2 min later regained boost. Came to another hill and same thing happened. So next hill I decide to pull out the laptop and do some logging. Requested boost was showing approx. 2200mbar and actual was 1300mbar.

Is this the ecu signaling the waste gate to open up to reduce boost? It only occurs during prolonged hill climbs. And im not beating on the car either, averaging 0-5psi constantly up hill.
