Not only must the meter be properly calibrated, but the glass must be clean and DRY. The meter shoots laser light which can be blocked or refracted just like any other light. I got a pricey ticket when an officer tested my windows during a down pour. With all the rain, the meter read miserably low. I took the officer and ticket to court and won, based on his own admission that it was raining like crazy. I had to do a little Perry Mason type act, but the ticket was thrown out. The best part is that I wasn't able to be cited for the same windows ever again as I'd already beat it once!- kept all the paperwork in the glove box...
EDIT: That was a different Audi - 87 5000CSQ Pearl white on black - sadly gone now.
