Re: bilstein shocks and H&R springs setup

You can't because it doesn't exist. Bilstein does not make shocks for the B6/B7 S4's. Your only option is Koni Yellows.

Pure Motorsports (purems.com) has the best prices I've seen for this set-up.

no you can't, thats for the 1.8t, the s4 has a much heavier engine and that setup won't do

Vogtland also makes springs for the B6/B7.

I'm running Koni yellows with those springs. I love the setup. Car sits at perfect height, and the ride is awesome. I got my setup from the Tire Rack. The prices were pretty good.

Re: bilstein shocks and H&R springs setup

koni yellows and tein stech springs. 500lb spring rating on the teins, and the koni's are dampening adjustable.

an interesting fact about shocks for these cars is that koni actually only has one part number for the b6/b7 chassis, regardless of what motor is in the car. so feel free to run what ever shocks you want, but the springs will need to have the higher rates to compensate for the weight of the v8

Sorry, but no. The rears are the same no matter A4 or S4. However, the fronts ARE different due to the weight difference. Koni fronts for the S4 is part # 8240-1235SPORT while Koni fronts for the A4 2.0T/3.2 is part # 8240-1185SPORT. You cannot "feel free to run whatever shocks you want."

have you lifted this info from koni directly?

I worked with them over the last summer trying to figure out if i could run the b7 coilover kit on my s4, after talking with them back and forth the dampners arent the problem, its the springs that are, however im sure you know that you can fit any spring rate to their kit up to 550lb. which i intend on doing in the near future.

so feel free to be confined to what you "can" run on these cars shock wise, and if your local, feel free to pm me for a ride in my car, and then you can judge for yourself.

i just threw koni yellows and H&R springs on my car. a busted control arm bushing prevents me from getting the car until tomorrow, but the stance with wheel spacers is amazing. i have yet to drive it, but i'll def be posting some info and pics tomorrow

i'm not talking about traction or similar issues. I'm more concerned about the height of the snow hitting the lowered car and destroying the front end. Plowing the road, essentially. I know the car only drops an inch and a half or so which doesnt seem like much, but on the flip side, it looks really damn low, and my car already looks scary close to the snow sometimes.

Springs support the weight of the vehicle, shocks absorb road impacts. I think shocks might work regardless, as long as they bolt up correctly.

i hear ya. one thing that scared me was those random chunks of snow/ice falling off people's cars on the interstate. i had a bunch of junk hit/scrape the undertray, but nothing too critical that f'ed up my bumper. i'd leave it low, but that's just me

reassuring to know. I'd love adjustable coils, but money is always on my mind. Whats kind of money can be saved with springs/dampers?

And like I said, they actually have a shock only set for the S4 and a set for the A4 (front fitment) with different part numbers. Why would you buy something designed for an A4 when there is something more specific for the S4? The OP was asking about a spring/shock setup, not coilovers. However, if your argument is that he can run the A4 Bilstein's or if he wanted to retrofit Koni coilovers with different springs; then ok, I can see your argument. I'm saying if he's doing spring/shocks, why not buy one that is designed specifically for the S4, which Koni is the only manufacturer.

they provide mostly cosmetic changes as well as the wider track (wider is better).

i bought mine through ECS tuning. 10mm and 15mm sets and both came with the longer wheel lugs. LOVE THEM.

If i decide to get rims ex: 19x8.5 will the spacers need to be removed or which spacer size should i go with for all four wheels.

I think it is 10mm front and 15mm rear. If you really want to make a difference in your handling I would suggest the RS4 sway bars.

^^these spacers would be too much if you when with an 8.5" wheel. you could still do spacers, but they'd def have to be smaller

if you get rims with an offset of +35, then you would not need spacers since the wheels will be flush with the fender.

I'm no wheel expert, but 19x8.5 with an offset of +35 is the decided norm around here, so if you went with +38, you definitely wouldn't need 8 mm spacers. I think you would want no spacers.

someone correct me if i'm wrong.

I believe 19x8.5 with a +38 is the perfect situation. Putting spacers on will cause you the wheels to poke out.
