    Just Curious: Snow Tires?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
What is everyone using as snow tires this winter? Do you like what you are using or have you guys used better tires before?

Last winter i picked up some tires i had never really heard of, and didnt get too much snow last year so i couldnt test them out. This winter how ever, it snows almost everyday here in Rochester. Right now im using Marangoni Meteo HP's, and they are fantastic. I've used LM-25's and LM-22's and both do not compare. I found a video about them too, check it out:

    Re: Just Curious: Snow Tires?

nokian all the way. get even the all seasons and you will love them. i had them on 18's o a fwd v6 auto sedan accord and drove up a decent sized hill in about 8-10 inches of snow.

they are magical tires from finland(or sweden can't remember) that simulate quattro essentially.

pricey though. and hard to find a tire place that carries them south of canada

^^ Agreed, the nokians are great winter tires I 've used a few times before. If you live in a snowy winter climate, any dedicated winter tire is muuuuch better than the alternative. (A/S or summers)

    Re: Just Curious: Snow Tires?

I've never had a car with winter tires and I got them because I plan on getting a set of wheels/tires for the summer so I can't really compare to any other tire, but I'm using Blizzak WS-60s and they have been AMAZING in the snow. Never even gotten close to stuck and the braking/accelerating times are insane. I can basically drive completely normally in a blizzard (not that I do with all of the idiots out there on the road).

I'm using Bridgestone Blizzaks....AWESOME winter tire. The combo of AWD and a snow tire makes winter insignificant, well, except for the cold that is.

I think I'm going to give those a shot next season... Right now I have the Goodyear Eagle F1 Allseason, and they are OK, but they are so hard so they aren't a great winter tire once the snow is too deep. They are good for like up to 3-4 inches.

    Re: Just Curious: Snow Tires?

I've using Blizzak WS-60s. I wanted the LM-25s but they were all out, and I waited forever to get my snow shoes on.
The only difference IMO is that the LM25s are rated over 105mph. WS60s are rated up to 105mph. But who goes that fast in winter. (I want to, but, well, that'd be stupid)

As far as traction in snow/slush/ice... I am amazed. There's nothing that compares to them. I havent even gotten the car even slightly stuck in the snow. The WS60s grip as if whatever's under it as dry tarmac. I'd highly recommend them, especially if you have alot of roads to go over that are snow covered.

Admittedly though, they're a little sluggish on the steering response, but thats normal considering how soft they are. On snow/ice (where they shine), there's not a damn thing wrong with them, because everything is very right.

Michelin Alpin's on stock wheels great traction no complaints plus I think they are Z rated so you can still drive aggressive with them on they are directional too.

    Blizzak REVO-1 FTW!!!

The car drives like its on rails in the snow.
But LMs are probably better for all-around.

    Re: Just Curious: Snow Tires?

i have bfgoodrich super sport(?) a/s and i easily go right though over a foot of snow. i actually fucked up my eur0 plate (real russian one) from snow getting snoved up in it. but you gotta drive a little conservative and the car drifts if you accelerate through any turn. snow yeah. drift everywhere AND its like a got damn jeep in the deep stuff.

did get stuck in about 15-16 inches when i had all the seat belts in use. but got out with a little reverse with esp on action.
