Got my IM shaft back from Issam the other day. He did an amazing job cutting the gear and balancing the shaft. It looks quite nice now.

why did you have to trim the gear? I only needed to shave some off of the shaft itself for stroker clearance

it drives the oil pump off of the timing belt in older style 1.8t engines.

i was under the impression you needed to shave off a mm or two from the end of the gear, not the other side (make the distance from the bearing to the end of the gear greater)...?

it does look nice and shiney

My machine shop guaranteed that the gear would fail when I told them how much had to be cut off of it. However, you have no choice but to cut the gear down that much when using 92.8 stroke with beefy aftermarket rods. Mine BARELY clears even though its cut down to 5.5mm. Luckily no issues after about 6000 miles yet though.

That why I don't really like the idea of stroking the 058a.....

LOL, but yet not 1 shaft has failed on a stroked 058. Mine seems to be holding up great even after 6 yeas of abuse making a bit of power.

    Find another machine shop
You know how much load it would take to cause a tooth in one of those gears to fail?
I have been running one of these lightened IM shafts for years. Was one of the first to do it alongside Scooter racing (they shut up shop now).

Ya, I ended up having it done by Jarod @ SCCH heads for a great price ($85 I think it was)
