When I bought my car the peice in the picture above the shifter wont stay down......I wanna buy another from genuineaudiparts.com but I dont know what its called. Sorry for the really uninformative post but i wanna get a new peice and have no idea what its called.

That's called an ashtray

you mean it keeps opening or the aluminum trim is coming up off of the plastic underneath

You probably have a coin stuck under the cover. Take out the ashtray first and check for coins before you buy a new one.

I know I have coins stuck under my ashtray but when I went to pull it out, I felt like it was going to break so I stopped, now I am endlessly searching for how to remove it without breaking it.

the black ashtray insert and just be pulled right out, but judging from everyones problems it sounds like you need to take out the mount for it that contains the light and whatnot. from looking at the pic i think you need to remove the trim around the shifter to get it out... i believe ive seen a DIY around here for a short shifter and/or shift boot install.. if you follow those instructions on how to remove the shift boot and then remove the trim around the shifter im sure it will be much easier to see how to remove the ashtray....

experts correct me if im wrong, im just going off of what i see in the pic, ive never done it myself

To pull the ashtray to really need to remove the stereo and the climate controls. I just asked a stereo shop one day and they let me borrow the radio tools and I pulled it right there in the parking lot and fixed the problem.

the top lid for the ash tray will pop off without removing the entire thing. There are I believe three holes in the lid cover that slide onto tabs and snaps in you can just play with it a little and get it off. I did this when i removed mine Plastidip'd it

Here is a pic (compliments of papachristou) that shows you how the ashtray engages. As posted above, you have to remove the radio to get the ashtray base out.

Hey man, are you still having a problem with this? I had my shifter plate, RNS-E, climate controls and ashtray removed, cleaned up and reinstalled in about 1 hour last night.
