got some surging...and tons of miles on my plugs. time to change. i've read tons of writeups but i'm still not clear.

most boost i'll ever get...peak...is around 14psi. i live in atlanta so it's rather hot.

-i'm thinking NGK bkr7e as far as heat range. is there an advantage to Bkr6e?

-gap...i was just gonna stick to .032 but i've read a lot of people liking .028. don't know if i'll need that with just stage 1 and intake?

---and is it REALLY for my car better to get the copper's vs platinum or iridium.???? if its not gonna make a real difference, i'd rather not change my plugs at every oil change.????

    Re: spark plug..Temp? gap? copper?

I am running 1000 miles so far on NGK Iridium IX's BKR6EIX - I am all stock, gapped to .32 with no problems. If you are chipped and K04'd I would gap to .28 and get a colder plug BKR7E. (B5 1.8T)

I hear the best results are to get coppers, but the change intervals are low and you almost need to change them out every oil change or 5-6K miles.

Sounds like you know everything you need to know already...

Gap them between .028" and .030" for chipped/flashed ECUs. Test plugs out till you find which ones you like best. I ended up with the Bosch F6DTC.

    Re: spark plug..Temp? gap? copper?

i think i'm splitting the difference on the gap and goin .030.

i think i'm pretty settled on the temp range of BKR7e being ok...

but my big question still is.....do i really need a copper plug??? am i actually gonna have any misfiring/ loss of power with a platinum? if so...i can deal with changing them often.....i just dont wanna waste time and money if i dont have to

    Re: spark plug..Temp? gap? copper?

I have Iridiums and I get a very slight miss once in a while, not even worth mentioning really as I do have over 140K.

But to answer your question, I think coppers are more efficient, the only downside is frequent change intervals. Platinums and Iridiums are designed to last but not quite as a better spark than the coppers.

    Re: spark plug..Temp? gap? copper?

Copper is a better conductor than platinum. But platinum lasts longer than copper will. NGK BKR7E plugs are only like $10 for 4 and you just would have to change them every 10k miles max. Most people change them every or every other oil change (which they do at 5k intervals).

    Re: spark plug..Temp? gap? copper?

copper is a better conductor and it will also absorb heat better supposedly allowing lower egt's ............but will i EVER actually notice that on a (hard driven) stage 1 street car??

Like Seerlah say's, try some different plugs and see what works best for your car. I've run the 7 and 6E's gap at .28-.30" with good results. Seems to run smoother with Bosch F6DTC's now though. 17-18 PSI.

    Re: spark plug..Temp? gap? copper?

For your setup run BKR6E's with the gap @ .030. If you run the Colder plug it will never get hot enough to clean the plug and it will foul. You only need the colder plug if you are Stage 3 or higher... (Flamesuit on) K04'd cars need to run BKR6e's gapped to .028 My .02....

    Re: spark plug..Temp? gap? copper?

i ran bkr7e's at .028 in the dead of winter on a stage 1+ car and never fouled a plug out.. it ran great, just the plugs were past their life and needed a change.

i will say i went back up to bkr6e's at .028 and its getting better mileage, a bit smoother in the cold.

i'd say at the 6's if i were you

Colder plug would be the BKR7E's.

So running a colder plug will help igniting the fuel better?
