    Should I be concerned?

This is a spare motor I got for my Audi A6 2.7 turbo. Came out of a wrecked S4 with 80k on it.

I started disassembling the turbos & manifolds today, and this is what I see in the exhaust ports:

Looks like the result of detonation to me, but I'm unsure if I'm right, or how bad it is.

It looks like little white specs. Are they hard or soft. My guess is either calcium build up or he was using race gas.

My concern is that I hadn't planned on tearing the heads off to check the condition of the pistons.

I find myself in the un-enviable position of having a seized 1-2 shift collar. It will basically cost me the same whether I drop the tranny, or drop the motor and tranny. So, I'm going to do the timing belt/turbos on this motor and install it when I repair the tranny.

All of that together means I do not have the additional $$ to build the motor. Besides, not planning on pushing it hard enough to need a full motor build.
