Carbonio CAI vs. K&N Drop in filter in OEM CAI?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am currently running on a K&N filter dropped in our stock air filter box with a K04 upgrade/CVT. Was wondering if the Carbonio would be better or slightly better then what I currently have?

I was told the Carbonio discontinued our kits or made some improvements to the old one due to lack of performance? Is this true?
Is there a new one and if so, how do you know that which is the better of the two?

In ones opinion, how much better is the Carbonio over the K&N?

    Thanks

your going to hear mixed reactions.

    1. k&n and stock box are enough

    2. carbonio is over priced and does not really work

    3. carbonio is a great product

    4. get another brand of CAI

    5. after market CAI's don't work

i own the carbonio v2 and love it.

No offense man but you should really try the search button. This topic has been discussed over and over and over again for years now.

If its so debatable then it cant be that much of an upgrade right????? I say just roll with the K&N.

Carbonio sucks and the filter is high flow. High enough flow the only thing it filters are whole leaves and rocks bigger then 4" in diameter. It blows MAFS like crazy on track days. Worst mistake I ever made.

im running a K&N drop in & i just bought a bottom half of an airbox to mod. its a cheap DIY & i can throw the stock non-moded box back in if i dont like it. thers a couple different ways to mod the airbox, its all about personal preference. you prolly wont see and HP gain but you will hear somewhat a deeper sound & youll hear the turbo spool more..so ive read.
plus these mods will supply more air..which is always good.
carbonio are over priced & some people i talked to that have them only got it because they got a good deal. my 2 cents :)

if you have a big turbo then the carbonio will help.

big turbo + higher flow = win

pretty much any intake mod for k04 or less rides are for sound... you might even be losing power vs stock air box

I run Carbonio. Simply because it had a front plate and opening that worked directly with the larger MAF housing of the Stage 3+ kit.
I love it. Never had one problem. My IAT's are low.
I have wrapped the crap out of the outside of it though, to keep the cool air cool.
No problems with the MAF on my end, unlike above poster.
I wouldn't ever pay retail for it, but I got an incredible deal, so what the hell. If I didn't have the bigger MAF housing, however, I'd have just kept the stock box. I'm not a K&N fan, because a little over-oiled and your MAF doesn't like it.
My 2004.5 APR Stage 3+ is SOLD
