    Re: Dry cone filter

advance auto sells the exact AEM one most seem to use. It's the only one they carry. At least this is the case for my store. You want a 3 inch inlet.

    Re: Dry cone filter

aem dryflow 5" cone with 3" inlet. it fits directly on maf, just have to remove maf from stock airbox. i bought mine off ebay for 50 plus shipping. got it 2 days later at regular shipping. make sure to get a heatshield from blinktekdesign.com. this way it will be a cold air intake rather than a hot air intake.

    Re: Dry cone filter

3" is slightly too big for the stock maf which is 2.75", will work great if you are using a 3" maf.

Most likely by wrapping something over the lip of the maf. You can just put it on there but there will be spots where the maf inlet wont be in full contact with the maf housing.

    Re: Dry cone filter

i dunno about the other cones but the aem dryflow has a flexible inlet so i just tightened the included screw clamp till it was snug on my oem maf. havent had any issues with it.

    Re: Dry cone filter

Well its not like you are going to notice a issue, but any air being sucked in thru the area where it is not 100% tight is just going to be unfiltered.

    Re: Dry cone filter

AEM does make a 2.75" one, I talked to the guys at the advance auto by me and they can order it. $49.95, so probably go this route as Amsoil doesn't offer a 2.75" one.

    Re: Dry cone filter

I love my AEM DryFlow. Filters down to something like 1 micron! And I don't need to oil it. K&N can't compete with that.

    Re: Dry cone filter

when u clean it though, its recommended to use their cleaning solution and let it air dry, but no oiling whatsoever.

    Re: Dry cone filter

Please forgive my "noobness," I'm rather new to the Vag world. Are there any downsides to running a larger dry filter? Aem also makes a unit with a 2.75" inlet with a length of 9" vs the 5" length unit in the link above. Have there been any comprehensive intake/filter tests for the 1.8t that suggest some filters can handicap performance if they are too small or large or free-flowing? I know that too small an opening would be bad but what about too large an opening?

I already purchased the 5" dry filter but I was wondering if there was any "valid" reason not to order the 9" unit.

    Re: Dry cone filter

5" will be plenty, especially for a k03. the only problem that arises from having too big of a filter would be fitment issues.

It can alter the air flow too. For better or for worse. The MAF element needs the air to be straight when going past it so if you have an air straightener (like the stock MAF housing) you are good, but if you don't that could be a concern that I would look into.

Also I am always airing on the side of a bigger filter has more filter element so it will allow potentially more air to get in there. Although I think you are right... with a k03 you are not going to come near the limits of a 5" filter so no worries there either.

    Re: Dry cone filter

^^ good point. MAF's dont like turbulence. i was assuming he would use the stock maf housing with the screen before the sensor.

    "tornado" FTL...

    Re: Dry cone filter

Most cold air intakes are 3" so no worries getting the 3"x5" AEM filter on there. They just use a silicone coupling where it meets up with the MAF and that gives enough flex to make a tight seal around the MAF. I ran the amsoil EaE filter for a while and its definetely a well made filter. Really easy to clean... all you hvae to do is blow the dirt out with some compressed air. You can't go wrong either way.
