    Federal emission warranty in California

Hi, here is the story. ECL came up a couple of days ago, so I dropped off the car at the dealership. It turned out that ECL was caused by the failure of Bank 2 Cat converter. The SA said it costs $1600 for that job. Anyway, they removed the error code, and then I came back. After getting home, I searched on the Internet and AZ, and found out that there is FEDERAL EMISSION WARRANTY 8yrs/80,000 miles. However, nobody at the dealership haven't mentioned about the warranty. She has currently 77,500 miles and it's 02 model. Isn't she still under the FED warranty? I am thinking of visiting the dealership again to mention about this warranty issue.

BTW, ECL just came up again since they removed it yesterday.

yea, same thing for me. i already knew about the warranty so i went in with that. got everything done for free. didn't even have to pay for the scan or anything. also ended up getting my coolant temp sensor replaced and fuel pump under warranty as well.

edit: my car is an '03 with 69k miles...68k when the cat was replaced...

Print it out and take the car back to the dealer, tell them to replace it under emissions warranty. If they give you trouble about it, tell them you want something in writting that states the miles on the car at the time of the issue. This way if you take it to another dealer or call up AOA you can show them that you were still within the 80k miles.

You're covered. I had mine done last year @ 78k miles. I brought it in to the dealer and picked it up the next day with a brand new cat converter. They didn't clear it and make me come back again.

Re: Federal emission warranty in California

dealer replaced both my cats (bank1 & bank2) for free under federal law mission warranty. (AVK-3.0 has two cats, 1.8T only has 1 cat)

my car is 02 model and at 74k at that time.

It is common known problem that early AVK-3.0's cats have early failure.

your bank 2's cat has high chance on its way out soon as well.
    watch out for code P0421.
