Is this worth it.. or will these turbos run out of steam before 8000rpm

I think that you will have other problems before the heads. More like rods are going to be your limiting factor if your turning the boost up with high rpm. Plus, personally I wouldnt push this motor to 8k with out some serious work. Block and heads. The 1.8t is the rev queen.

    Re: Built head w/ RS6's?

Assuming the block is already built.. I dont know if its worth it to upgrade the valvetrain to get more out of these turbos or if they're going to turn into a hairdryer before that

    Re: Built head w/ RS6's?

Ok, I personally dont know the flow characteristics of the RS6's and how much they can push before they become inefficient. You would have to ask some body that has RS6's or better yet call up JHM or Vast and see wat they say. They have to know of the flow rates since they make a tune for them.

By 7k KO4s are useless so my guess would be 7.5k or a little more with RS6s

Also post back with your results. Because Im leaning towards RS6s

    Re: Built head w/ RS6's?

I talked with the boys from Vast there before about the same thing, if doing headwork to bump up the rev limit on the RS-6's would be worth it and they said no, the RS-6's would run out of steam to early and raising the rev limit would be unnecessary.

    Re: Built head w/ RS6's?

So looking at the map and what the guys have said, RS6s will run out of steam by 8k for sure.

My question is the 1+ grand worth it for maybe 15% air flow.

Are RS4's worth upgrading to over stock K03's?

So, no go on the valvetrain, what about compression dropping head gaskets / ARP headstuds?

    Compression makes power.......

headstuds i would do. Only drop compression to raise boost alot.

    Re: Built head w/ RS6's?

I understand how that works.. what do you consider "a lot" on this motor? over 25psi? Like I said I've got rods ready to go in.. so I want to utilize the motors full ability with these turbos. What HG are you running on yours?

    Re: Built head w/ RS6's?

Im prolly gonna run close to if not 30 psi on my setup ;) I was running 21psi on the RS6ss on stock block. I would not have pushed over 24 without building it. At 21 psi i was running door to door with cars that trapped 125.

On my car i am gonna do JE pistons that drop compression to 8.5-1

    Re: Built head w/ RS6's?

so.. your 1.0 compression drop over stock (stock HG) @ 30psi is equivalent to my 0.7 compression drop (with 034 HG) @ 21psi

I've never seen a head gasket drop compression so much.. I wonder how accurate that is.

    Re: Built head w/ RS6's?

I dont see how a HG would drop the compression so much. Pistons I can see.

As for RS6s at 30psi, they wouldnt last long. Its like running at ko3 at 17-18 all the time, they go in a few hard pulls.

Evilevo PM some info and price on your RS6s.

I'm pretty sure that EPL, ASP and VAST have built "reliable" cars spiking 30, tapering to 28. DAP, CHEROHALA(spelling?) and others are running 30 PSI without blown turbos. I wouldn't imagine 30 PSI on an RS6 turbo is any worse than a k04 pushing 23 PSI. Have you had any issues with RS6s blowing?

BTW, I am not gonna be running RS6ss at 30psi.
