Seems like a waste of $300 for some sound.

    Re: anyone have this intake?

^^ 2nd on that. you wont gain hp from an intake like other cars, as our oem one flows enough already for 300hp. the only good reason to put an intake on is to hear the diverter valve when you let off throttle. i bought a 5" aem dryflow cone with 3" inlet (oiled filters can make maf dirty/damaged), and the blinktekdesign.com heatshield. 55 bucks for the cone, and a bill for the heatshield. now when i cruise i turn down my radio so i can hear the turbo spool and the diverter valve open..... love that sound....

anyway dont waste 300 bucks on something you can do for 150 for the same result. just my .02.

and by the way if you do get a cone filter like mine. you MUST get a heatshield, as this will deflect all the radiant heat from the turbocharger and exhaust manifold and turn your hot air intake into an actual cold air intake. blinktekdesign ftmfw.

the 150 option I think is better, the blinktek shield actually works. I'm not so sure about the EVOMS. I plan to go the AEM and blinktek route soon.

Yea seems like the biggest waste of money ever. Just get a cone filter and a heatshield, but then ask yourself, why do you need it? It wont give you any gains.

    Re: anyone have this intake?

I had one lying around, but I think my roommate threw out the heat shield

I'll sell you what I had left of it.. which is the U bend, the bracket, probably the cuppler. You'd have to buy a filter and heat shield (which is a waste of money imo.. once the air hits the turbo, any benefits are negated imo). Anyway if you're interested send me an offer.. I'm about to throw it up in the forsale section.

I gota carbonio biggest pos waste of money ever. Every time I run teh card hard it gunks the MAF. The filter flows air and dirt like a sieve. Twice i went 2 the track twice my MAF was beyond repair.

I hope you didn't leave the stock replaceable filter in there for 3 years.

    Re: anyone have this intake?

A boost gauge is helpful for tests like this...

Even if these filters/intakes don't produce any more power something can be said for gas mileage. For example, when my car was completely stock it idled around 23 on the vacuum side of the boost gauge. After installing a 2.5" high flow cat and borla turboback it dropped to ~21. As far as the intake goes I just have a K&N cone filter/bracket... after installing that my boost gauge reads 19 at idle (indicating the panel filter/stock airbox was a slight restriction even at idle)

I've recorded several 35+ mpg trips (strictly highway driving in the summer), before installing the exhaust and K&N filter I could barely break 30-31mpg doing the same trips in past years I'm still using the stock heatshield too which everyone complains about (I just painted it black)

I had the ABD on mine for awhile and just went back to stock. I miss the sound a lil but it feels like stock, swiss cheesed with a drop in filter runs better.

    Re: anyone have this intake?

It wasnt bad, but I def like the stock with air box mod better. i just had the heat shield that abd provided in mine and i think that if you had a really good shield it would be nice but if your gettin it straight from abd, def not worth the money

You have any specific K&N model/part #s for your setup? Looks nice...I'd like to do the same with the blinktekdesign heat shield.

'97-99 1.8t take the K&N 57-0282.. I'm guessing there's no kit for the newer 1.8t's because the secondary air pump would require a small breather filter. It could be done, but there's no ready-made kit as far as I know

Thank you I've been looking for a good reasonable priced heat shield for our cars and this seems to be perfect, definitely going to have to pick up one of those

Definitely an autozone piece together intake with that Blinktek heat shield is the way to go. All of the other pre-fabbed intakes are too much money just to hear the woosh of the turbo.

Once I forgot to put the "snorkel" pipe back on my car after changing the filter... actually sounded pretty cool... bet it sucked alot more hot air in though.

Got extra sound for free... haha

Looking at that K&N part and comparing it to LLtek style/design (http://www.lltek.com/aik_a4_B6.htm) it appears just the small breather filter is all that's needed. Looks like the dimensions for that piece are [1.5" mount x 2.5" base x 2" top x 1.5" tall], of course mount is the most important. So If I combine K&N #57-0282 and #RC-2290 I should have a complete kit? Does that make sense?

If that's true then from AdvanceAutoParts the the total price tag would be $115 (the 57-0282 item is on sale down from $138.50 to $78.99). You can get a cheaper shorter breather filter from somewhere else (boostedtech sells the one for their kit separately currently on sale for $16 - 1.5" instead of 3" compared to the K&N part).

Sorry for the extended questions, just trying see if I'm on track for piecing this self-made kit together.
