    Snow tire question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

I recently got a flat tire and when I put my spare on I realized the previous owner had a snow tire on the spare. He gave me three snow tires to put on the car but they were worthless because they were bald. My question is, how bad is it for me to ride on one snow tire and 3 all season tires?

    Thanks!

"Bad" doesn't begin to describe how BAD it is. Get new tires asap.

    Re: Snow tire question

its bad. if possible, replace 2 tires with the same spec; better if you replaced all 4 though. You did not mention what the condition of the other 3 All Season tires are, so if they are still good (like 95% to 90% tread remaining) I'd get just one to replace the flat and another to replace the spare. IMHO, AS tires will be good enough provided you don't drive like a stuntman at rush hour traffic(ie: taking 25mph corners at speeds over 60mph) and weaving in and out of traffic (just like the hundreds of stupid videos on YouTube) racing some shitty rice rocket.

To give you an idea, I run summer tires right now and I have had zero problems as far as grip is concerned. How much more if I had all seasons or snow tires? The cost of snow tires is what gets me. I can't justify dropping the $$$ for a set that I will use for just a few months of the year. Not to mention, they're made of a really soft compound that wears them out quickly. Driving in snowy or icy conditions isnt rocket science. just drive smart, be prudent and always be cautious.

everyone relax...if it's temporary it shouldn't be a big deal (i.e. to get home or for a day or two while waiting to get new tires

it's not like he's planing on rocking the one snowtire all summer with the other a/s tires!

    or is he?

I just figured he was asking because it could well be a medium-term solution for him. If he was just using that one snow tire to limp home, he probably wouldn't have ventured the question in the first place?
