    From 4x4 to quattro!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just saying hi to the forum, and a few pics of my new ride .

Ok, so I'm new to audis, though my first car ever was an MK3 jetta back in the 90s. Then moved to Jeeps (three so far), which really got me into modding/wrenching/welding.....braking things....wrenching ....braking things again...

During my last offroad trip on the WJ ('04 grand cherokee), I managed to brake an axle shaft, hit the quarter panel against a rock wall and bust a window, all in one day . The Jeep has been in the garage now for a month while I find the time to install the new lift, axles, TC.....

Which leads me to posting here; since the Jeep is down for a while, and the near future plans are to run 35s mudders, I needed a daily driver that was small and nimble, plus I really missed the fun I had driving my stick jetta, so.... after much searching, I finally found what I was after, and I brough her home this past saturday.

Hoping to learn as much as possible here, but with so much left to do on the Jeep (and a wife to convince on how important and necessary modding our cars is ), the B7 will have to stay in stock form for several months......."but honey, what about a chip for christmas"

    What I found: 2007 A4 2.0TQ , S-line, Titanium package, 6spMT in brilliant red .

    I'm a happy camper .

And a teaser of the Heep:

Oh yeah, I forgot, David here; cheers!

Whats up Dave, let me be the first to say Welcome to Audizine. Its unfortunate what happened to the "heep" but one day it will be back and running. As far as your new car Congratulations!! great combo red titanium a4. If you decide to not keep it stock i would suggest one mod that is a must, the RS4 sway bar which will greatly improve your cars cornering. AZ is a place filled with much information and knowledge ..... Al

Funny you say that, I almost bought a range rover sport SC last month, with the ulterior motive of wheeling it down the road , but they are so nice and pricey that I can see why people could have a hard time destroying them offroad. Finally got back to my senses and found the Audi at a much better price and MPG. Plust IFS/IRS offroad=The suck!

Thanks ice cream; wow, it's dejavu, the first ever (and possibly one of the most dramatic) mod I ever did on the grand was a HD rear sway bar, meh! it was like a whole new vehicle; so yes, it prolly be on the list; but first, I need to get rid of the seatbelt chime..... it's killing me .

LOL, maybe I could transplant one of them air suspensions from a rover and take the a4 for a little rock crawling stroll...... I love the headliner, but if I ever roll it, it's yours!

Congrats on the new car, you definitely got a great color combo. All the info you need about getting rid of that annoying seat belt chime can be found here:

"Pricey" is relative. To me the sport is a silly vehicle. A new Full size RR SC in Autobiography trim is pricey. However, the rr sport uses a cool sway bar disconnect which on the road is stiffer but off road releases for longer wheel travel. The stock rovers would go through a lot more than your stock jeep. Of course you can lift a solid axle sprung vehicle but lift isn't everything. The traction control on the rovers is actually very proficient.

You might check out what the lr3 can do. See my link below for how I built mine for camping and general exploring.

Lot's of similar things are done with the Jeeps.

Where exactly are you guys wheeling at? I know its hill country, but close to what town(s)? I used to spend a lot of time in Doss, if you've heard of it. Tiny little town between Kerrville and Fredericksburg

jwest, nice garage you have there, I love your LR3, looks like a fun expedition rig; for rock crawling though, I'd still take my solid axles with selectable full lockers and 35 KM2s any day. No doubt the rovers are extremely powerful in stock form; in fact the only reason I did not get the RR-SC it's cause the stealership would not budge on the price....... "they must be selling tons of those these days".

    Re: From 4x4 to quattro!

I made a similar move, went from a 2000 Rover Discovery to the A4. I got hooked to modding the rover, but was getting killed on gas and big repairs that were around the corner weren't exciting to think about. So, seeing as I was completely addicted to the full time 4x4 of the rover, a quattro was a logical choice. That, and many of my friends own or have owned Audis. Love it. I do miss being up high (rover was lifted, audi is lowered).
    But oh well.

I do mind................. j/k, I got her with 26K mi for $26K; stearleship wanted $27.9K.

Edit: That was CPO btw, found some with less miles for less price, but of course not with quattro, manual, s, tit, bixenons..... overall, fairly happy with the deal I got.

LOL, well, I'm new to this forum, but not to forums in general; have been on some of the Jeep forums for quite some time; I will still ask stupid n00b questions here and there though .

Thanks to all for the warm welcome and comments; starting to feel at home already .

Great to see another off-roader. I have a 40th Anniversary Land Cruiser with OME (Old Man Emu) 3" lift and 35" BFG MT's. I also have an ARB Bull Bumper and Warn 9000lb winch and some other goodies. Mine has the front and rear lockers from the factory with Dana 60 Axles front and rear. What size are those tires on the WJ? They look like about 265/70/16. Time for some 305's!!

Enjoy the A4. From the looks of it you are like me and cannot keep anything stovk for longer than about 10 minutes.

Kool TJ, I have 6" Clayton's sitting in the garage waiting to go in on the dubjay (whenever I get some time off ). Hey, love the dent on the hood of the TJ, let me dig up some war wounds of mine; "If it ain't broke, wheel it until it is" .

Thanks man; this is my third WJ (99,03 and the 04); the projectors have worked great thus far, not bad for el cheapo E-gay housings; I dropped in some HIR bulbs on the Lows; the projectors on the Heep are halogen projectors, they actually have a pretty good cutoff and nice color on it as well; I may at some point drop in some HIDs down the road; so many plans but now the Jeep and the A4 have to share the love .

What size are those tires on the WJ? They look like about 265/70/16. Time for some 305's!!

Enjoy the A4. From the looks of it you are like me and cannot keep anything stovk for longer than about 10 minutes.
F/R D60s FTMFW! (Drooling with envy).

Currently the heep is on 265/70/17s on 3" lift; will be going to 35" BFG-KM2s on 15" steelies, 6" clayton's LAs and swapping F/R e-locker equiped JK D44s, hopefully will have it ready by the summer. Lots of work ahead .

Sounds like you have a plan at least. Those 44's will be plenty. I haven't tried the KM2's but hopefully they will be quieter than the first gen BFG MT's if you care about that at all even. Solid Axles FTW.

I wish I could get a 6" lift for my LC but then it wouldn't fit in my garage with the light bar on top.
