    Another lumbar repair DIY

    But this one is very easy!!! After I gathered up all the parts it took me about 10mins. And I did it in the car.
    One: Pull out the broken pieces.

    Two: Find or buy some approx. 1/8'' thick metal strips and notch the ends. I used 2 1.8T hyd. t-belt tensioner locks. Twist them 90*.

    Three: Drill a hole in the unnotched ends and find two self tapping screws.

    Four: Drill two holes in the seat frame behind the lower lumbar spring thats broken. The holes need to be smaller then the screws from step three.

    Five: Screw the metal strips onto the seat frame with the lumbar spring in the notched ends.

    Notice that you can see the seat foam now compared to picture #4.

    Re: Another lumbar repair DIY

    When mine broke a few years ago I used the ghetto method and it worked just fine. I fixed the broken plastic seat back clip with my all time favorite "Pig Putty" although any plastic epoxy (J.B. Weld, etc) will work. I just filled the void between the base of the clip and the broken portion with the putty. I drilled a few holes in the broken portion of the clip to give the putty more bite. I then cut a small wooden block that sat between the flange on the lower seat frame and the lower edge of the lumbar support that was previously supported by the broken wire. If I recall the block was somewhere around 6" by 3/4". I just cut it down until it filled the gap. I pulled the rubber strip holding the seat bottom fabric to the seat frame off to expose an existing hole in the center of the frame rail. I used the hole to screw the wooden block to the frame. Put the fabric and rubber strip back in place, put the seat back on. Done. I also put a little grease on the metal clips securing the upper portion of the seat back so it will come off easier if needed in the future. Took all of 30 minutes and the lumbar support still worked as before. Sorry, no pics since I did it several years ago.

    Cost=$0.00.

    I've had my car for about 3 years. The lumbar has been broken since I bought it and just got around to fixing it.
