So I just spoke with the dealer who informed me that I have to bring my car in for some sort of software update? Will this update affect a chipped ECU?

It will delete your programming and you will have to get it reprogrammed.

Audi has updated it's software several times. They are just standard updates to adjust aspects of the ECU.

typically to correct for any programming errors, bugs, or to recalibrate a control strategy that will increase the operation reliability or correct a previously unknown issue.

Its no big deal, all oem's do it and your ecu should be reflashed for free with no worries.

Thanks Keith for adding info that I couldn't. Also, it will be free, but you may have to pay for the labor.

Keith, I don't know about these Audi ECU's so how many times can you safely flash it?

My car was in the dealer yesterday for replacement of a low fuel pressure sensor (CEL came on) under warranty. Car was there whole day even though they finished early. They also did a complimentary 27-point inspection (whatever that entailed), washed and vacuumed it, but never mentioned verbally or on the printout that an ECU update was done. I must wonder if this only affects certain model years.

Mind you I had a 35,000 mile service done just before Christmas and it was not done then either.

Now my questions are for the APR folks -- if Audi reflashes the ECU with new software, and the car is then re-chipped, how does the chip handle the new Audi software? Does APR also re-design their chips to take advantage of new Audi updates or, if not, will the perfomance of the chip suffer / improve as a result of these Audi updates?

This is a good question the APR chip won't be any different unless APR says its been changed and it will work with the factory update just as it did before like nothing has changed.

    Re: ECU Software update???

So how does this work if my car was already chipped when I bought it and audi reflashes my ECU. Thats BS because I would have to pay $600 again to get it reflashed.

Would you still have to get the car chipped again if you had a flip-switch or SPS unit?
