Really? I live in the West Valley to and I see quite a few B5s and B6s rolling around. Did you ever get a hold of that Audi tech about the S6Leds?

140k is not hard to do if you keep up with regular maintenance. But of course somethings will have to be replaced after a while but the motor should be fine.

Re: So honestly how much life can I expect out of the B7?

I dont think there is a specific number to how miles your car will last. It depends on how you treat your car and take care of it. My family had 5 4000's that lasted over 200k miles each. Im also trying to resurrect an 87 that needs some tlc so I can make it a 2nd car for the summer.

But as for newer cars, I dont know how long they last. Im not a fan of more and more electronics. Since im looking for another vehicle at the moment, in the Audi family. I had a b5 s4 and thats kinda my level of comfort with electronics. I was thinking b6 a4, but it has to much stupid shit in it, and only has the 1.8t. I was also looking at a 6sp a6. But their hard to find and none of my parts of the s4 will fit.

Getting back on topic, its a tough call. But I will surely say they dont make them like they used too. Thats why i want to get the old 5 cyl on the road again. Its been sitting for a year and a half, we put the jumper pack on it and she roared to life.

I still have a high level of expectation for all Audi cars. So i say drive it hard until you cant fix it any more.

Re: So honestly how much life can I expect out of the B7?

Probably somewhat unrelated- but i had a 99 1.8t Passat wagon that i ''traded'' in for an 07 A3- and the 1.8t had 198k on it. It was chipped with Neuspeed VBL since 5k. 3 timing belt changes, 1 tranny fluid change, lots of brakes rotors/pads and tires thru its lifespan, and the notorious ICM issues (but were fixed under warranty- twice) The car was in such clean and pristine condition that the Audi sales manager was thinking of buying it- until he saw the mileage. At least they gave me 2k for trade in.

I plan to put the 2.0T fsi to the same lifespan service. It now currently have 32k and (knock on wood) not a single issue.

I can say that Audi/VW engines are excellent- its just the little things that are attached to it that creates issues lol

Re: So honestly how much life can I expect out of the B7?

Modern cars are design-engineered for a mean average 150,000 miles to ensure they last past the normal warranty period. That's why you can buy a CPO car with a 100,000 mile warranty; Audi knows their reliability based on warranty claims. Some will die at 80,000 or earlier (abused), and some will live on past 200,000. The things that wear out over time are wheel bearings, suspension joints, rubber parts and other seals, brakes clutch (i.e. normal maintenance) and the upholstery. The reasons people like leasing is that they keep getting fresh cars and never live with the matted down carpeting, dingy paint, worn steering wheels, caked dirt on the various nooks & crannies, etc.

If you take good care of your car and keep it clean too, whatever the make, it should go 200,000 miles without a major overhaul. I think the German marques are better engineered for longevity compared to the other makes I own and have owned, and the B7 A4 6spd Quattro I drive daily (70,000+ miles, I put on 25,000 since buying it last summer) is as solid if not more that the just-sold AMG S55. No rattles, no squeaks.

well, the b7 hasn't been out long enough to see how many miles it could last, but others bring good points; the way you maintain your car is vital to your engine's life. If everything is dont properly and on time, I am sure you could last over 100k miles.

I dont know how many high mileage B7 A4's are, but I remember a thread about this.

Yeah, I would definitely say the biggest determinant of longevity is the owner of the vehicle. I say this as I am an owner that will never get 100k out of a car without major repair. That's because of me though. My friends, family, etc. all have multiple examples of Audi's over 150k and APR has multiple examples of Stage 3 Audi's over 150k with the kit installed. Its all mostly up to the owner regardless of the car.

    perfect explanation imo ^

people always go around saying japanese cars are the most reliable.. I used to think that.. but the problems we all sometimes have with our cars are usually with parts that japanese cars aren't even equipped with.. FSI fuel pump...tumble flaps? although turbo japanese cars do come with much stronger bypass valves (DV)...

Around 150,000K I would say the K03 should be on it's last legs.. besides other maintenance like shocks and for the hood/trunk struts, little things like that I don't see why not.

I think your right, my cousin got his turbo replaced when he got his engine replaced at 200k. he dumped $5k into the car, but he said its well worth it.

I think 120k is easily attainable without major issues, but I'm still a little worried about the stock turbo at that point. No one has really blown one on here because no one has gone that far with the b7 yet. There was a high mileage thread and some guys are over 90k already.

Re: So honestly how much life can I expect out of the B7?

It's all about proper maintenance and how much abuse the car is being put through. Performing all of the various fluid changes at their regular intervals and using quality synthetics are key to making sure a car lasts as long as possible.

Having said that, performing the proper maintenance can only do so much if the car is being put through the paces regularly. Pushing the car hard on the track (or the street for certain individuals) will require more attention and revised maintenance schedules. For example, when autocross/track season is in full swing, I change the oil every 3.5-4k miles rather than every 5k miles because I am pushing the engine in the upper rpm ranges constantly.

As far as seeing older Audi's, I see a wide range of Audi's every day that range from Audi 4000's, B5's, B6's, C5's, and C6's.

Re: So honestly how much life can I expect out of the B7?

I have had conversations with Audi techs over the years and all have praised Audi engines and engineering. Sure there are electrical gremlins but the drivetrains are pretty solid. The old song and dance is maintain it properly and it should last a while. The debatable issue is how maintenance and parts costs are high for German cars in general.

Maybe not a 2.0T or an A4 but my friend's '01 A6 3.0 has well over 200k miles and as of last summer when I drove his car it still runs like new.

I must add that his car was the reason I have my Audi now. He's very meticulous with maintaining his car you won't believe it's an 8 yr old car with 200k miles. Even the leather seats are in good shape.
