    DIY A/C Evaporator Cleaning

My A/C smells like ass/ Wet towel/ Sweaty Gym sock/ Whatever!! I've been reading a few threads and all of them talk about a spraying the air intake with disinfectant. Spoke to a friend of mine and he says that this a temporary fix. The best bet is clean the evaporator as this mold can damage the evaporator and I would later have to buy a new one. Any body have DIY on removing the evaporator? Thanks.

You can pull it out with needle nose pliers. Note which orientation the evaporator seats when you pull it out so you don't put it back in backwards. Do note that you will need to discharge your a/c refridgerent before hand and install with new when done. Clean the evaporator with brake cleaner/ maf cleaner, etc... The evaporator costs a whole $5 FYI... I would also change your cabin filter first to see if that gets rid of the smell...

If you do the evaporator make sure you do it all at once and do not leave the system open to ambient air for more than a day because your ac dryer unit will saturate itself and become useless. This can in turn blow up your ac compressor.

to help remove the odors from the A/C evaporator case. It involves spraying an industrial grade disinfectant into the air intake for the HVAC system, then letting it do its work. Hopefully the disinfectant will kill the mold. If it doesn't, the parts from the HVAC will need to be removed and cleaned, or possibly replaced. This is very costly and time-consuming repair work, so get back the car back to the dealership as soon as possible and get it covered under warranty. I wish you the best!
