Two questions about interior lights and intake

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
The interior lights in my 04 S4 seem really dim, like hard to see dim. Didn't seem like that when I bought it. I've yet to find a dimmer switch like in every other car.
Also, has anyone used a K&N air filter. I'm waiting to do intake and exhaust so I'd like something to hold me over. I've had bad luck with them in the past, seemed to get oil on my MAF.
Any info would help on either issue, thanks!

The "+" and "-" buttons right under the gauge cluster are used to brighten/dim the interior lights.

I don't have an OM genius. I love this website b/c I can get simple questions answered by a lot of AZ'rs who get it, you clearly don't. BTW, I love that the Yankees spend Lambo money and perform like a V6 Mustang.

On the similar note.. How bright is your instrument cluster everyone? Is it as bright as the Display screen in the middle or is the white light dimmer?

I have mine on full + and it just seems dim, you would think it would be brighter esp. after looking at this picture:

I just know that my lights are not as bright as those above, i don't know if that is normal or not.

Once I cranked mine up they became plenty bright.

it's true, but you're one of the nicest, most positive AZers out there. Funny how that worked out.

OP: seriously, get a manual and read it cover to cover. While AZ is good for figuring out the things you know you don't know, those will be heavily outnumbered by the great things you don't know that you don't know, and will thus miss out on.

Re: Two questions about interior lights and intake

I'm not at war. It just ticks me off when people get overly aggressive on forums when people are just trying to enjoy the community. IE: "I don't have an OM, genius." and "... I love this website ... you clearly don't."

It's unnecessary and doesn't help anyone. I don't have a problem helping those people feel appropriately embarrassed by their own behavior.

Ok, here's the bottom line, I got this advice and in my next post I said a sincere "Thanks". That could have been the end of it. If BravestNY (whom I don't have a problem with, you've actually helped me out on a few other issues and I do appreciate it) or anyone would have said, "look in the owners manual, it's in there" I would have said another "thanks". But when you throw in the "Get in touch with your car man!" That doesn't help anybody and I think that's being a bit rude. When I call him out, I get called a dick. All I'm gonna say is, he started it, haha are we all 5?

I agree, like I said above, BravestNY has been a help to me. As I also said, I was just bustin his balls. Just like Serum is now getting all hot and bothered, I was sort of pissed too, but I quickly got over it and appreciate all of BravestNY's other posts. Hell, I appreciate most of Serums too, haha. Sorry, if I offended anyone else.

I'm hot and bothered that nobody answered the K&N filter piece! I've read that the factory intake is really quite good, so I figured just replacing the filter might be a good idea.

The factory intake IS quite good, in my opinion. I don't use a K&N or ITG. I have heard some people complain of MAFS problems after using the K&N or ITG, and others have used them for long periods and still haven't had trouble with the MAFS.

I had a problem with my MAFS, but never used an oiled filter, so I guess it's possible the MAFS problems people with oiled filters are having are coincidental. FWIW, if the MAFS does go, I think you can replace the sensor (without the housing) for like $90.

Good to know. I've had trouble with a MAFS on an old Lexus IS300. Had a K&N CAI. Got much better gas mileage but it ruined the MAFS quickly. Good to know they're that cheap to replace though, might be worth giving it a shot. Might save $90 in gas pretty quickly, haha.

There was a guy on the B5 A4 forum that did tested the K&N against the OEM filter with a vag, measured gallons per second with both under a bunch of conditions and he came to the conclusion that the K&N didn't flow any better than the paper filter. Take it for what it's worth it's worth, maybe it's different on the S.

Good to know, I bet the V8 would benefit more than a B5 motor, but good info.
