    Should I file a claim??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I bought a steering wheel from this used parts store. When i inquired about the steering wheel, they never disclosed to me the fact the wiring is damaged, and the only way for it to work is to splice the wiring from an old wheel. I feel this is something I should have been notified before, for if I knew, I wouldn't have bought it! I have asked for a refund... but the owner called me saying they wont issue a refund due to the fact that their separate parts, and refused to pay for a wiring harness and emailed me this:

"The steering wheel and the wiring for the air bag are two different parts. There is nothing wrong with the steering wheel therefor I can not accept a return. Give me a call & we can talk about this."

What do you guys think, do I have a valid claim? Btw i paid with credit card. My only option here is to call the credit card and try to get this reversed

It's also the buyers responsiblity to ask ALL questions pertaining to the auction BEFORE placing a bid.

    Your loss.

by 'its also' do you mean that its ALSO their responsibility to let me know the harness is broken and also mine to ask if it is?

PayPal will do nothing. They will only help you if you don't receive the product.

by swap obviously I mean the whole horn ring, no splicing necessary.

Since it is used I bet you asked them if there is anything wrong with the steering wheel and if that part belongs to the steering wheel then they lied if didn't say that there is anything wrong with it. But if it is a separate part that they just included for free then leave it as it is. Do the swap as mentioned.

its a separate part, but its needed for the wheel to work, and always comes with the wheel. they did say nothing was wrong with the steering wheel, and i felt that everything was intact including the harness

Re: Should I file a claim??

just swap the parts from your stock wheel. or replace/repair the harness. wires are wires. i know people are afraid to splice and cut but as long as its done right it will work fine.

they probably should have let you know the wiring was damaged, but you also should have enquired about the wheel, wiring, horn ring, ect. making sure everything included was not damaged.

well if they want to play hardball... cancel credit card payment, sent the steering wheel back. F them if they want to send you damaged goods then its not your problem.

Re: Should I file a claim??

well, its not that easy. you can't just cancel credit card payments. only under fraudulent cases will the credit card co. cancel the payment. There is billing disputes but they will put that charge on hold until it is resolved. I agree the seller is at fault but with the way credit card companies are failing right now, don't expect much sympathy from them. Basically you could fight it, but would probably lose. Since you can easily swap the wiring, that's why I mentioned to go that route, but if you want to take the time to fight it, by all means go for it. It'll be a learning experience if nothing else.

shit, i have lost several claims with paypal. my friend sold a used phone ebay and pointed out that it was "used" and had the normal wear and tear and he pointed out two larger scratches on it. she won a paypal dispute because he didnt point out all the hairline regular scratches specifically.

i agree that you should have been told abou the broken wiring in the product description, i would file with both paypal and your credit card

If you paid a good price for the steering wheel then just swap the harness and be done with it. Sometimes it's not worth the hassle to return things, especially if you got a good deal.

yes he should have disclosed that. If it was on eBay I'd probably put a neutral or maybe negative feedback... but be prepared to get the same.

I guess its from case to case then, i bought a fender for my brothers golf 4 years ago after i got into a fender bender. I bought it off vortex there was a sticker on the fender. I asked the guy to make sure there was nothing wrong with the fender like a hole behind the sticker. he reassured me, i had this all documented pay pal wouldn't do anything about the issue.

I think they have changed the rules I'm not sure though if you can give feedback to the buyer. It could have been a rumor.
